In Italy's Lodgings in |
![]() |
| Welcome to In Italy Online! No one knows Italy like we do! We were the Internet's first site about Italy, and with over 4000 pages of information about where to go and what to see, we're also the biggest. Our Italy experts will help you plot the best itinerary, find the lodgings best suited to you, and make sure you get the room you want. Unlike big automated websites, we are human beings and we know the hosts at every single property on our site. We have been friends with most of them for years, and this means that In Italy Online's guests are always VIPs. We will always do our best to get the exact room you want. You will never be downgraded to the worst room in the house (which is pretty standard when you book through those impersonal sites). You will never be sent to a "similar" hotel on the other side of town. And we provide local reps in case you need back-up assistance. When browsing our site, remember that we human beings are here to assist you! Several hundred pages of comments from happy In Italy Online guests attest to this: click here to read just a few of them. And if you're new to our site, please take a few moments to learn how to book with us and why to book with us. |

Although
few foreigners are familiar with the name "Latium," every trip to Italy includes this region because
its capital is the Eternal City, Roma. We recommend you plan for at least three days there (the bare minimum,
in our opinion!). Dedicate one day to the Vatican Museums and St. Peter's Basilica, another day to the ancient
city (the Forum, Palatine Hill where the emperors lived, the Coliseum and Nero's Palace), and a third day
for Baroque Rome (the Spanish Steps, Piazza Navona, Trevi Fountain and the many churches bursting to the seams
with exquisite artistic masterpieces). If you can spare another day, consider taking the 20-minute subway
ride to Ostia Antica, an ancient city where you can see an amphitheatre, all the public buildings, the apartment
buildings, cafes, restaurants, temples, firemen’s barracks and even the synagogue, all in half a day.
If you’d really like to see what life was like in an ancient city, Ostia Antica is a great alternative
to Pompeii. Turning eastward, just a delightful 90-minute drive from Rome, with spectacular snow-capped mountains
all the way, you can visit half a dozen 13 th-century monasteries built by St. Francis. Then there are the
lakes: Bracciano, Bolsena and Nemi. The first was the famed venue of the “Tomkat wedding”; all
three are equally picturesque and authentic destinations for a day trip. Head south, and you’ll soon
find a long stretch of wide, sandy beaches that have been favorite swimming spots since the time of the emperors.
