Amalfi Vistas

This spectacular air-conditioned villa is located along the costal road about 3 km from Amalfi town center, in one of the most enchanting spots along the entire coastline. Surrounded by olive groves, pine trees and many other Mediterranean plants, cascading in colourful profusion to the azure sea, its 5900 square feet of exterior spaces offer no fewer than three levels of ample terraces shaded by violet bougainvillea pergolas, with outdoor furniture, built-in seating, marble tables and garden seats that provide a comfortable setting for al fresco meals. More paved terraces and gardens planted with pink and red geranium are scattered around the property. The 12x24-foot panoramic swimming pool (open May 10-October 25, 2008), sunken into the lowest terrace, is surrounded by a spacious terracotta deck, twelve sun loungers, two showers, and a shaded dining area with table and chairs for twelve.

Inside, the sitting room also has terracotta floors with delightful blue zodiac-shaped inserts. Throughout the 4850-square-foot home, the rooms are furnished in elegant coastal style, including a priceless crystal table with marble base, ample and comfortable leather sofas and chairs, fireplace and French windows to the terrace with built-in seating, wicker chairs, table and spectacular sea views. All the bedrooms, also furnished in the modern coastal fashion, have screened shutters, satellite TV and safe, and French doors that open onto the terraces, courtyards or balconies where one can escape to relax and enjoy the views or take in some sun and listen to the sounds of the waves below.

The villa's main entrance is 20 steps down from the road, or at the parking level, large enough for two cars. You walk four steps up to a foyer that opens onto the spacious master bedroom, featuring Vietri tile floors, a love seat, an en suite bathroom with Jacuzzi shower, walk-in closet, old country-style chest of drawers and sliding iron shutters opening to a lovely balcony with blue printed tiles, sun loungers and sea view. A second door leads to a 530-square-foot terrace on the other side with garden seats, terracotta floors and geraniums overflowing from large terracotta pots, and outside lighting.

From the foyer, a wooden staircase with 20 steps takes you down to the spacious dining/sitting room with open fireplace, sofas for twelve and sliding iron shutters opening onto a terrace with built-in seating, blue and yellow printed tiles, wicker chairs and sea view. On the left of the sitting room, a small corridor leads to two bedrooms. One double has yellow leather beds (can be made as a twin), walk-in closet, modern chest of drawers, white-and-yellow printed tile floor and two windows, one with sea view and the other opening onto the outside courtyard with pine trees, garden seats, terracotta floor, outside lighting and sea view. The second bedroom is a small double with walk-in hall closet and French windows to the same outside courtyard. These two rooms share a hall bathroom with massage shower, floor with green printed tiles, attractive ceramic inserts on the wall and window onto the outside courtyard.

On the right of the sitting room is another small corridor with walk-in closet. It leads to a double bedroom with double bed, walk-in closet, loveseat, floor with pink printed tiles, and panoramic window; as well as a bathroom with shower and skylight. Next there is a fully-equipped kitchen with professional cooktop with six burners and grill, oven, American refrigerator with ice maker, wooden table for four, and French window opening onto the terrace with round marble table for twelve, barbecue, and a utility room with washing machine and two sinks.

Next to the main house is a guesthouse with two connecting bedrooms with typical local vaulted ceilings: one double room with wrought-iron queen bed, and the other with twin beds. Both have white-and-blue printed tile floors, windows onto the rear of the house, blue French doors opening to the terrace, and en suite bathrooms with shower and a French door onto the terrace. The guesthouse is rented only in combination with the villa.

From this terrace, it is nineteen steps up to the parking area and fifteen steps down to the second terrace (reachable also from the sitting room via twelve steps), covered by a bougainvillea pergola, with outdoor furniture, a marble table for ten, garden seats, built-in seating, outside lighting and gardens planted with pink and red geraniums, roses and other flowering plants.

Three steps down is another terrace, with garden seats, rocking chair, marble fountain surrounded by palms, green olive groves, pine trees and splendid views over the blue sea. Another 40 steps down takes you to the third and lower level where the swimming pool is located.
