Casa Furore

Located 12 km from the cliffs of Amalfi, at the end of a winding road that offers the Amalfi Coast's most spectacular views, Furore or "Terra Furoris" is named for the fury of the waves crashing against its cliffs. This unspoiled village of houses, scattered along the ridge of the Lattari Mountains, is a wonderful alternative to the well-known seaside resorts of Positano and Ravello. It represents a rural escape that is unspoilt by mass tourism and features beautiful walking itineraries, breathtaking vistas, authentic artisans and shops, a mild climate, tranquil atmosphere and superb cuisine excelling in delicious local specialities. The terraced vineyards that provide the production of the local wine - "Furore doc"- drop precipitously to the sea forming an impenetrable, deep rocky gorge, the most impressive natural feature along the entire Amalfi Drive. Contrasting with the simple churches, tiny chapels and ancient ruins are the frescoed walls and unique roadside statues that are donated to the town every year in September, when well-known Italian and international artists are invited to Furore to depict the history and environment of the area in an ever-expanding open-air "museum" of modern art.

If you've ever been to the Jet Set resort towns of this area, you might have trouble believing that by driving only half an hour, you could relax in a truly authentic village surrounded by the most rural countryside. Casa Furore is right on the border of Agerola and Furore, occupying a privileged and peaceful hilltop site overlooking a wondrously extensive panorama. From every window you see the spectacular blue sea and Furore countryside, both untouched by time. The apartment, on the first floor of a modern two-story house, has been pleasantly furnished with comfortable furniture. The owners live on the grounds, but do not encroach on their guests' privacy unless invited.

The property itself is guarded by remote-control gates. Once you have parked inside them, you walk 15 steps up to a small terrace, which opens onto a bright dining/sitting room with a fully-equipped kitchenette (fridge/freezer, oven and cooktop), dining table for six people, sofa, and French doors opening onto a full-length balcony. Here you will have your breakfast, your afternoon apertivo, or your dinner under the stars, all the while enjoying the spectacular views of the surrounding mountains, sloping vineyards, citrus groves and the sea.

Inside, a hallway leads to a twin bedroom with French doors onto the balcony; a double bedroom with TV and French doors onto the same balcony; and a bathroom with bathtub. Those who choose to retreat here in the cooler months will be happy to know the apartment has central heating.
