Casetta Toscana's Guestbook

Back to Casetta Toscana

We had a great time at Casetta Toscana. It was beautiful and exactly as described. A couple of notable things from our trip:

There is a spectacular restaurant within walking distance from Casetta Toscana called Cupoli. It was perhaps the best dining experience that we had in Tuscany. Great wine and fantastic Italian country cooking.

Your website and recommendations were just what we needed to make a memorable vacation. I would recommend Casetta Toscana to anyone who is thinking about visiting Tuscany. Paola, the hostess was wonderful and helped us out several times with driving directions. She even brought over a bottle of sparkling wine when she discovered that we were cooking a special fish recipe one night for dinner.

Dear Jessica,

Thank you for your e-mail. We did have an absolutely marvelous trip. Even the weather, which was a big concern of mine, was excellent considering it was winter.

The accommodations were beautiful and very comfortable, the location picture perfect and close enough for many day trips to other beautiful Tuscan sites, and our hosts were lovely, charming people who went out of their way to be helpful. I would not hesitate to return to Casetta Toscana or to recommend it to others. Thank you for listing this wonderful place!

Casetta Toscana was absolutely amazing: the location, the property, the villa itself, the pool, the view, and most importantly the singularly generous and wonderful owners, were all better than we had dreamed. The weather was unusually hot this summer in Italy and the lack of air conditioning combined with the abundance of mosquitos had its challenges, but I would not have changed a thing about our week in Tuscany.

Thanks so much for all your help in organizing the trip. I will definitely be in touch for our next adventure in la bella Toscana. There were almost no glitches whatsoever with our vacation. The only small one happened when I went to pick up our rental car from Avis. The reservation had been made for an Opel Vectra sedan even though my voucher was written for a station wagon as I requested. In the end, however, I ended up with a better car for the same price! Not bad, all in all...

Ciao et grazie mille,

Buon giorno,

I cannot find enough superlatives to describe our accommodations, especially 'Casetta Toscana'. Everything arranged through you was excellent, including the convenience of booking viewing times for the Accademia and the Uffizi. Thank you so much, I will be recommending In Italy to all my friends, and hope to use you again next time.

Casetta Toscana was wonderful and so well equipped, including toaster, coffee perk, and facecloths and even shower caps in the bathroom. Fabrizio and Paola were wonderful hosts, and our stay was just perfect.

We had a rented car and drove everywhere, downtown Firenze in rush hour, all along the Amalfi coast and by this time were feeling confident enough to drive in Rome. The Italians are far better drivers than North Americans, and we had no trouble, although there were a few hair-raising moments when cars were overtaking on blind corners etc. Wow!! Incredibly, we saw no accidents in all the driving we did.

Feel free to use any of the above to help future tourists.

Hi Cynthia,

Casetta Toscana was everything we had hoped for and more. From the moment we first set eyes on this adorable, two-story stone cottage, we couldn't believe our good luck. The furnishings, the decor, the landscape--everything was impeccable. Yet what made our visit truly exceptional was the friendship and kindness of our hosts, Paola and Fabrizio. They welcomed us like part of their family, and we feel we found new friends that we will always treasure.

I would highly recommend Casetta Toscana to anyone. The hillside location offers stunning views that make you feel like you are in a secluded Tuscan wonderland. Yet just a few minutes drive away is a bus that takes you directly into Florence. At Casetta Toscana, you truly have the best of all worlds.

Thanks again for everything. And could you please forward Fabrizio and Paola's e-mail address to me? We have some special treats of our own to send them!

Hello Julie,

We were really happy with Casetta Toscana and also with our trip in Italy. Everything went very well and I must say that the accommodation exceeded our expectations. The home was clean and big enough for our family and the owner was extremely helpful and nice with us. She really helped us with many things like visits, trip to Venice ,good restaurants, trains schedules, etc...

Dear Kristin,

We adored Casetta Toscana! We had just come from Rome, where internet pictures and description far exceeded the reality of rather second rate accommodations. We were braced for disappointment in what we would find in Lastra a Signa. Our approach off the autostrada deepend our anxiety. Intro was unequivocably more urban/industrial sprawl than rural idyll. Hearts in our mouths, we followed Initaly's very clear directions. With each half kilometer our spirits rose...

By the time we drove through the gates down the cypress-lined lane through an olive grove to the find the utterly charming and exquisitely appointed (comfort and taste) Casetta Toscana at the other end, we thought we'd entered a fairytale! To top it all, Paola and her family were wonderful, gracious, helpful, delightful "neighbors." My friends and I were ready to move in for the long haul.

We spent our first Sunday in a glorious day of "R and R" on our farm. By around 4:00 p.m. we ventured into Lastra a Signa ( a completely charming town when explored from the villa down), and went grocery shopping at the Ipercoop. That ranks as one of our most delightful Italian memories. The enormous store was filled with food and wine -- both prepared and to prepare -- of a range and quality that I've never in encountered in the best American Supermarket. Waiting on line at the "Charcuterie" section was an enthralling lesson in Italian culture -- and did we eat well!

Though we had rented a car for day trips to Sienna, Lucca, etc., we opted for taking the municipal bus on our three day trips into Florence. As easy and convenient as could be, plus offering opportunity for more encounters with locals -- quite different from the normal touristic connections.

Our dining experiences at Edy Piu (within walking distance) on our first night, then a special birthday dinner at a restaurant recommended by Paolo and Fabrizio (about a half hour drive), were both memorable.

In short, we could not have been happier. The accommodations were perfect -- for four exacting women. But they were exceeded by the graciousness of the Cellini family and everyone we encountered during our stay.

I would could back in a heartbeat, and hope to do so with my husband and daughters. While the latter are 20 and 17, Casetta Toscana would be wonderfully welcoming to a family with children.

Dear Kristin,

I have just returned from my trip to Italy and I felt I had to write and express my thanks for the expert service you provided. Casetta Toscana is a little piece of heaven and the host family are some of the nicest people I've ever met. You were so helpful to me in preparing for this trip. I will recommend you to anyone and everyone.

Dear Cynthia,

Italy was marvelous and exciting. Casetta Toscana was so much better than we expected. It was close to Florence so that we could take a bus into the city and be there in thirty minutes and at the same time we could sit out on the small terrace and look at the olive trees, flowers and the hills that framed the setting and believe we were in some sort of a movie set. The little rock house that had been an old barn could not have been more comfortable or more charming. In fact the pictures on the web site don't do it justice. The hostess was very gracious and accommodating and spoke enough English that anything we needed she understood and provided. In fact, one night we came home and she had left us olive oil that had been made at the villa and ravioli for our evening meal. This spot was ideal for day trips to Siena, Pisa, or just to get lost in the countryside and surprise yourself by running upon a craft fair or an old monastery perched high on a hill. It was close to a supermarket that far surpasses anything I have ever seen in quality and variety. If you wanted to cook or just get something already prepared you certainly had a lot to choose from. I highly recommend Casetta Toscana for anyone who wants to see Tuscany. It is ideal.
