This very small hotel is concealed within a typical courtyard at the very heart of the city around the corner from the Fenice Theatre. Along one side runs a quiet canal, artery of day-to-day life as well as tourist gondolas. On the top floor, windows overlook the characteristic red tile rooftops, studded with wooden terraces and interspersed with ancient belltowers. This is not a deluxe hotel, but its rooms are charming and well furnished, and they offer some clever 21st-century surprises.

Public transportation: Easy to find and only one bridge to cross from the Vallaresso/San Marco vaporetto stop.
 

Rooms: 20 rooms, including singles, doubles, triples, quads and 2 that offer views of the Barcaioli canal. Rooms on the rear are a little smaller but very quiet. Triples and quads have a queen-size bed and one or two single day beds. All rooms are furnished with Venetian antiques, damask walls and draperies and Murano lights, and have private bathrooms.
 

Features: Air conditioning, double-glazed windows, color satellite TV, direct-dial telephone with modem hook-up, mini-bar, radio and safe. Bathrooms have a stall shower, a shower with curtain or a bathtub with wall shower; all have hair dryers.
 
Facilities: Hot and cold buffet with fresh juice and cappuccino. Cocktails or tea are served in the courtyard in the afternoon.
