Dear Gang at Italy Online:
You asked for my comments - to sum it up - a BIG GIANT THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Generally, thanks to your frequent recommendations and trading of emails back and forth our trip was fantastic and the logistics an accommodations were superb. I never could have planned this myself, and I never believed each place I stayed in could be almost exactly what I what I expected and wanted. Also, the instruction documents you included with each location we stayed at was EXTREMELY helpful and on the mark. It gave us great instructions on how to get to each location from the airport or train station, and the contact numbers included were helpful- and the contact ALWAYS answered immediately.
ROME- Hotel Gladiatori - Only stayed there one night at the end of our trip, but boy what a great hotel (very expensive as I am sure you know. It is a boutique hotel so you get very personalized, friendly service. The bonus is a beautiful outdoor terrace on the top floor which provides and unobstructed view of the Colosseum (one block away). You can have breakfast (provided free) there, and at night they open a bar there where you can have a drink.
Other Observations- you were right- I never needed a car, and having one would have been a complete hassle
Again please feel free to use any or none of my comments to assist you and others in planning their trip. To any future users of In Italy - trust these guys, they know exactly what they are doing. Not only did they help pick the right places to stay, but how many days to stay in each city, the order of cities to travel to, etc.

Dear In Italy,
We had a fantastic trip to Italy. I can not tell you how pleased we were with all of the accomodations that we arranged through you site. The Hotel Gladiatori in Rome and Hotel Marmorata in Ravello were better than we thought they would be. Everyone we met in Italy was so friendly and welcoming.
I have recommended your website to everyone I talk to who may be thinking about going to Italy.
Thank you for providing such a valuable
website.

Hello,
This is a great hotel in a great spot. Mariella and Bruno were extremely helpful
and did a great job of taking care of us. I had an issue with the bathroom at
one point (rusty water from taps!) and Mariella efficiently dealt with it by
moving me to another room. The view from the breakfast room/bar is great! For
those that may want more room, you should ask about the "loft" and "penthouse" apartments
in Via dei Serpenti. They are both in a great area (Monti) where Romans actually
live and work with wonderful bars and restaurants in the street, literally a
few doors from the apartment building.
One point about both places: the showers never seem to drain efficiently at either
the Hotel Gladiatori nor Sorrento
Centro. Must be something about Italian plumbing!
;)

Evelyn D.
Dear In Italy,
We had a lovely trip to Rome and were particularly pleased with our hotel, which we booked through your website. It's a lovely small hotel with incredibly friendly and helpful staff. Our bedroom was to a very high standard. Breakfast was included and is taken in the diner on the top floor with the roof terrace overlooking the Coliseum - that's also a great place to have a drink at night to see the Coliseum lit up.

Dear In Italy,
Thank you for facilitating a wonderful and memorable trip to Italy. Our visit to Italy got off to a great start with our stay in Rome at the Gladiatori Hotel. The rooms were large (we opted for the superior double rooms), beautiful and very clean. The buffet breakfast on the roof top terrace overlooking the Coliseum was magnificent. What a way to start your first day of sightseeing in this ancient and beautiful city. We found the hotel location and quality of service to be outstanding. The hotel staff was extremely accommodating under the most capable direction of our host, Bruno. Bruno left such a positive impression on everyone in our party. He went the extra mile to make sure our Rome experience was hassle free, like arranging for our train tickets to Florence. He could have just told us how to do it and left it at that, but he took on the task for us, which allowed us more time to see Rome. We will long remember Bruno and the wonderful time we had at the Gladiatori Hotel.
Another bright experience was the two day trips that we took to Chianti one day and to San Gimignano & Siena the next. Our guide, Euan, made these two days the highlight of our Florence/Tuscany week. We marveled at the scenery, enjoyed all the local people we met and had some most delicious food and wine along the way. Euan was a delight to spend a day with, so knowledgeable about the area with such an easy going and accommodating personality, he set the tone for a blissful day in the country. We had a party of eight and the money we spent on these day trips was a bargain for two days of pure care free relaxation and fun.
Thanks initaly, for helping us thoroughly enjoy your beautiful country.

Hi Kristin,
We had but one afternoon and night. Unfortunately there was torrential rain so we spent the day soaked. The Hotel Gladiatori was just a delight. We ended up with a first floor room with only the in-ground ruins and the Coloseum outside our windows! We ate in a restaurant that was recommended and that meal was definitely one of the highlights of the trip - even given the great food on the tour. The name is La Taverna Dei Fori Imperiali on Via Madonna dei Monti, 16. Their phone number is 06 0679.86.43. This was definitely the best food that we had in two trips to Italy. Possibly one the best meals and absolutely the best service we have had anywhere in the world. The chef/owner Alessio makes sure to visit all of the tables to make certain you are satisfied.
Thanks for all of your help and for your website, which I recommend to everyone even remotely interested in Italy.
With Warm Regards,
Helen and Bob S.
Dear In Italy,
Thank you for the welcome home note! We had a very nice time, and your website made the whole pre-trip experience so easy - we really appreciate it!
We do have some comments to share about each of the properties, and hope it will help your future visitors in making their decisions:
Hotel Gladiatori - in Rome
- Very nicely furnished, clean
- Great views of the Coliseum
- Unavailable Bar and Rooftop Terrace; We stayed at the Gladiatori for 3 nights. 2 of those nights, both the bar and the rooftop terrace were rented out to private parties - so we could not enjoy them. Then on the 3rd night, their bartender called in sick and although we could sit there, no drinks or service was available. It was really sold as having the bar and terrace to relax in after days of sightseeing - they should be honest and say that its availability to hotel guests isn't guaranteed.
- Taxi drivers aren't familiar with it - perhaps because it's a newer hotel, not one of the taxi drivers we encountered knew about the hotel. Luckily, its so close to the Coliseum, we could ask to be dropped off there and walk to the hotel.
- Restaurants: The Gladiatori recommended the "Grill & Wine Restaurant" near Trevi fountain. Although it was nice, it was extremely hot and closed in without ventilation. We had to keep getting up and going outside to get air - so despite the food, I wouldn't recommend it during the warmer months. We really enjoyed Al Tettarello Hosteria on Via dei Capocci. You can walk
in about 15 minutes from the Gladiatori and the neighborhood is pretty bad, but its great food and they serve authentic Calabrese cuisine - a bit spicy, but very good with reasonable prices.
Thank you for the opportunity to let you know both what worked out very well for us, and which property descriptions may need to be updated. Overall, it was a very nice trip and you all made it so easy to arrange.

Jessica,
It's hard to readjust after a wonderful, but all too short and busy a trip to Italy.
The trip was a great success, in particular due to the excellent accommodations
and their locations related to planned activities. There were no disappointments,
but rather pleasant surprises with lodgings booked.
Hotel Gladiatori
A wonderful, bright and modern boutique hotel with great and friendly staff
to assist in which ever way required. Super location next to the colosseo for
on foot exploration of all of Rome's ancient sites, including the Vatican.
Although in a busy traffic area, our great room was totally quiet. Breakfast
on the roof top terrace with its views gave a great start in the mornings.
The nightly dinner menu is limited and somewhat pricey, but served by very
efficient staff; the atmosphere is worth it. Have recommended this hotel to
friends who have occasion to visit Rome on business.
Your service and follow up was much appreciated. We hope to explore other regions of Italy in future and would look forward for In Italy to assist us again.
Best regards,
Uwe L.
Jessica-
We truly enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Gladiatori. It was beyond our expectations, both the rooms and the location/view. Bruno at the front desk was marvelous, he really made every effort to welcome us and make our stay perfect. The location was great and we loved having the Metro station only 1/2 block away. One tip we figured out. After watching how the buses/tourists came/went we decided to go over and buy our tickets 1st thing in the morning since we wanted to do the guided tour (only 4 euros more) of the Coliseum. When we arrived at 9:30, the English guided tours where already sold out until that afternoon and we bought our tickets for the English guide for 5:15pm (they close at 6pm), then spent our day doing other things. We came back early for our own sight seeing in the Coliseum and then our tour and by this time there was hardly anyone inside, not the busloads of tourists we had seen throughout the previous days. This made for some great pictures of the interior without the hordes of people in the background.
Also, we got our rental car through initaly.com and we had the best time in our sweet little Alfa Romeo. We even had other tourists ask us how we managed to get our Alfa since the Saabs and Mercedes they had were kind of wide for the narrow Italian streets/roads.
I have already recommended the Hotel Gladiatori and initaly.com to a number of people who have been interested in going to Italy. Thanks again for all you help in making our trip so memorable and easy.
Regards-
Debbie R.
Hotel Gladiatori was my favorite hotel. Bruno was FANTASTIC. The rooms were great with the best air conditioning of the trip! Everything is new. The Coliseum is a block away! The hotel is an excellent base for exploring historic Rome. Bruno told me that they hope to have a full service restaurant up and running in this fall. A good move, the terrace on the top floor provides unbelievable views night and day. I will return to Rome someday soon, and I will stay at Hotel Gladiatori!
Despite the oppressing heat and our lost luggage, our trip was great. Thanks for your help! You are now my exclusive source for trips to Italy! I just wish you would do a site for France, and England, and the rest of Europe!

Dear In Italy,
Hotel Gladiatori was WONDERFUL!!! We had a beautiful room with a great view of the Colosseum. The bed was comfortable, the towels thick and cozy, the bathtub big and the staff warm and friendly. We especially appreciated Christian, Valentina and Samir. Every morning Christian worked the breakfast buffet on the rooftop terrace (which had beautiful views) and he was so friendly and accommodating. He told us about Italy and talked to us about the states he had traveled to here in the USA. Rome was terrific and our stay at Hotel Gladiatori was a great start to our trip.
The Airport Palace Hotel was OK. We had a very few hours here and it was fine for its purpose. The front desk staff packed up some breakfast food for us because we checked out at 4:45 a.m. which was nice. I wouldn't want to stay here if I was vacationing in Ostia Lido but it was fine for the night.
We pretty much loved everything about Italy. The only negative surprises we got were the differences in honestly among the cabbies. Even when we used the licensed cabs, it just depended on the driver. Our first cab ride from the airport to our hotel in Rome was 80 Euro! (I know, dumb Americans). We negotiated more after that! We actually went in a private "cab" for the ride out to Ostia Lido our last night and though I was a bit apprehensive we had a very nice man with great A/C who taught us some Roman history on the ride. Also, we were glad we opted for 1st class train rides on Euro Star after hearing some horror stories about coach from other riders.
Thank you for all of your wonderful information about Italy on your website. We would recommend your site to anyone and cannot wait to begin planning our next trip to Italy.
Sincerely,
Frank and Amy P.
