Gran Duca di York Hotel
|
|
This lovely Liberty-style building originally provided housing for the priests who were attached to the Duomo, which is only a few steps away. One of these was the Cardinal of Milan, who later became Pope Pius XI. The lobby has a neo-classical tone, with columns and marble floors, statues and trompe l’oeil frescoes. It also has a cozy little cocktail area where a friendly barman serves drinks and snacks. In a bustling city that can often feel impersonal, it’s nice to have a “home” to retreat to in the evening, perhaps to enjoy an aperitif before you step out for dinner.
