Grand Hotel Verdi's Guestbook

Back to Grand Hotel Verdi

Dear Julie,

We stayed at the Grand Hotel Verdi in Milan. I would highly recommend this fine hotel. The room was beautiful and all the staff from the front desk to wonderful restaurant were very helpful. The hotel was two blocks from the subway which we took to go see the Last Supper. It was about a 4-5 block walk after getting off the subway to the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie. (Go around to the rear entrance to see the Last Supper...and don't be late for your reservations!)

Here is a tip. Outside the church take the streetcar east a few stops to the Piazza del Duomo. On the far side of the plaza is the Cathedral of Milan. The front of it was being refurbished and was covered with a giant tarp. You can go inside and it is beautiful. Here's the tip. Walk around to the rear of the cathedral and buy a ticket (6 Euros) to get an elevator ride to the roof of the cathedral. Unbelievable!

We also visited the Alfa Romeo Museum in Arese.

Thanks so much for helping make our Italy vacation one we will never forget!  We hope to visit Italy again and will surely seek your assistance when we do.

Thanks again!
Ed & Kendra K.

Hello,

Just wanted to say we came back from our trip to Italy and couldn’t be more pleased with the hotels we stayed at based on your suggestions.   I wouldn’t have been able to set this trip up without all your helpful guidance and direction.   In particular, want to thank    Jessica, Kristen, Alex and Fabio for all their help. I might want to also add a suggestion, in the list of restaurants you provided us near "Grand Hotel Verdi" in Milan, we came across another wonderful place within walking distance, "Concept 29". I believe it is on the Via San Marco. We did go to one of the ones mentioned in our Verdi info sheet, "L'Osteria del Treno" and it was great also. Thanks for all your help, and I'm "glad" I came across your site!

Best regards,
Tom W.

Hello Jessica, below a few comments:

1) Plus: Breakfasts, very good and complete, we loved it.
2) Minus: Not very well located although the metro was close. The thing was that we arrived on a Sunday, everything was closed and the machine that gave the tickets on the metro only accepts 0.50 and 1 euro coins (which we did not have) and there was no booth to purchase them (it was closed), we had to walk a lot to find a place to exchange some money.

Thanks for your help, we will keep you in mind for future trips to Italy!

Hello Jessica,

Our trip to Italy was wonderful! Everything I had arranged through you turned out to be perfect. The arrangements I didn't make with you turned out to be mostly disappointing. Fortunately I had done alot of planning through you. All three hotels, Hotel Grand Verdi in Milan, San Zulian in Venice and Locanda Casa Bianca were great! The staff at all hotels were especially helpful, and spoke English. The rooms were what I expected and never disappointing. I was extremely happy I booked through you. The car we rented through your site was better than I expected. At check out from hotels and car rental we were always charged exactly what I had on my voucher from you, there were never any hidden charges. It was nice to know exactly what was owed and have that match what they were expecting.

I would highly recommend all three of the places we stayed. The Villa Locanda Casa Bianca was beautiful. We had lovely breakfasts each morning at Grand Verdi in Milan and Locanda Casa Bianca, the breakfast at San Zulian was not as lavish but it was delivered each morning to the room. I would pass on the "Free" trip to Murano arranged by the hotel San Zulian in Venice, it was a total push to buy the glass in the shop they took you to, and it really felt uncomfortable.

Jessica,

I apologize for the last minute flurry of requests during our trip to Venice. Despite many years of travel to Europe, I was the victim of gypsies at the train station in Milan. I turned my head for a split second and they stole the carry-on bag with all the paperwork for the trip. I felt like an idiot. Luckily, that was all they got away with. Thank you again for emailing us the duplicate hotel confirmation info.

The rest of the trip went off without a hitch. With the exception of the weather (beastly hot - even for their norms), I wouldn't have changed anything.

The tour of St. Marks and all of the hotels were wonderful. I would like to put in an especially good word for the staff at the Hotel Verdi in Milan. They were wonderfully accommodating. They even purchased our train tickets to Venice for us, had them delivered to the hotel and held them in their safe, as we were arriving very late and taking the 7am train the next morning. We also had the most spacious room in the hotel. Room #304. You simply can't get that much comfortable space for that price ($200) anywhere in Europe.

One bit of advice to any of your clients interested in buying a Venice Card. I recommend NOT purchasing them in advance on-line. In the event your papers with the confirmation information is lost or stolen (as was mine) they will not even try to verify your prepayment unless you have a police report of the theft. It is just as easy to buy them there on the spot and only a few dollars more.

One last recommendation. We had a wonderful dinner at Al Covo in the Castello district near our hotel. We both had appetizers, main course, dessert & wine for $185, which was a bargain from previous nights. They have the most amazing selection of cheeses I've ever seen in one place and the owner broke out the bottles of grappa and Friulian dessert wines for us before we left. It was a fabulous meal.

Thank you again for your great service.

Dear Kristin,

We had a great suite at the Grand Hotel Villa Verdi. It was enormous and we were thrilled to have 1-1/2 bathrooms, which were quite elegant with marble walls and floors and very contemporary fixtures. Once again, the staff was very accommodating and the concierge recommended 2 very good restaurants for dinner.

All in all our trip was an absolute success - invigorating, relaxing, exciting!!! We plan to return to Italy soon and will definitely use your services again.

Thank you!!
Jill R. S.

Dear Cynthia,

Also an excellent hotel, very nice with another huge room & great bathroom. Slightly outside of the center of activities, but with the Metro stop a couple of blocks away, it was no problem. The Green Line Metro was the one to take from Cadorna Train Station, get off at the stop before Gioia (I can't remember the name, it's a train station also, and not the main train station). Breakfast was very good each day, and we were able to access the Internet in the lobby with no problems.

Every part of the trip that I planned through the InItaly.com website was great. We rented a car through you also, and got a great diesel engine FIAT that got great mileage, as we drove about 800 US miles. I would caution those who think driving in some parts of the US is tough, for it is nothing like Italy, in either the cities or the countryside. Speeds are considerably greater on smaller roads, and city driving is a great demonstration of the weaving of a tapestry. There is little regard for lane designations, but once you acclimate yourself to it, it is fine.

Thanks for your help in setting this up for us.

Sincerely,
Ray & Mary Beth I.
