Grand Hotel Oriente

People who are true Italophiles love Naples, because it has a unique atmosphere found nowhere else in the country. As you know if you’ve ever seen any of the old Sophia Loren films, everything happens on the streets here! From the laundry hanging overhead to the tiny fruit and vegetable markets to the huge nativity scene shops to the sidewalk pizza counters, you will find all aspects of life going on in a lively, good-natured swirl around you. Don’t be afraid – but hang onto your pocketbook! If you have a great sense of humor, an insatiable hunger for authentic experiences and a curiosity about how people live in places that are not like your own neighborhood, then we promise Naples will not disappoint you, and this very centrally-located hotel is perfectly placed to be your base of operations.

Location: On Via Diaz, one block from Via Toledo, the best shopping street in town. You can walk to every site in Naples from here, and the docks and train station are a very short cab or subway ride away. Click here for a map.

Public transportation: The most efficient and safest forms of public transportation are the subway (metropolitana), city trains and cable cars (funicolare – which take you to the upper part of the City, called Vomero). They all stop near the hotel, and a brand new subway stop is right in front of the hotel, linking it directly to the airport and train station.

Rooms: 133, including singles, doubles and triples, as well as two 2-room suites. All the rooms are extremely large and comfortable, with good furniture, wall-to-wall carpet and large windows. There are a few combinations of double-connecting-to-single and double-connecting-to-double. A few upper-floor rooms have balconies (but there is no view to speak of). Each room has a private bathroom with stall shower.

Features: Air conditioning, big wardrobes, central heating, direct-dial telephone with modem, safe big enough for a laptop (on request), satellite TV, mini bar, pants press, bathroom with hair dryer.

Facilities: Elevator to the rooms and to the garage, Internet point, room service, excellent American buffet breakfast, restaurant open Monday-Friday, cocktail bar with piano, garage parking (costs 20 Euro/day).
