When Gabriele and Stella first saw this large, quintessential Tuscan house, they could scarcely believe it was for sale. It seemed a dream come true! After they fulfilled their fantasy of owning a property right outside Pienza -- the most perfect Renaissance town in the world -- reality soon set in as they began to restore the 200-year-old building to its original state. Terracotta floors needed to be taken up, polished and relaid; brick walls needed to be scraped and spackled and smoothed and whitewashed; wood beams needed to be inspected, planed, sanded and sealed and oh yes, the homes of various previous and present four-legged and two-winged residents needed to be relocated too! While this was going on, expert oil-producer Gabriele planted an olive grove out back, so that its silvery leaves would greet the new guests each morning when they threw open their hardwood shutters. Stella found a stash of antique wrought-iron beds, had the headboards repainted and bought brand-new mattresses, then she pulled all the hand-embroidered linens out of her grandmother's cupboard, picked armloads of flowers from the garden, arranged them in vases made by the local ceramic artisans, turned on the espresso machine, and they were ready to receive their first guests! Thanks to their many years of experience in the hotel sector, Stella and Gabriele were able to combine an authentic country atmosphere with professional hospitality, and now they look forward to helping you enjoy this fascinating part of Tuscany.
