Palazzo Ruspoli's Guestbook

Back to Palazzo Ruspoli

Dear In Italy,

We liked Palazzo Ruspoli. The rooms were charming. The location was perfect, walking distance to all major sights. There was, however, a very unpleasant smell in the halls of Palazzo Ruspoli, possibly from a broken sewer pipe nearby. The Bargello Museum is a must see, especially for people, like myself, who are in love with Italian ceramics.

Dear Jessica and In Italy Online,

Our stay at the Palazzo Ruspoli in Florence was wonderful. The location is great. We could go sightsee and walk back to our room for a rest within minutes of the major sights. The staff was helpful and courteous. The rooms were big and very comfortable. The Palazzo Ruspoli is located on the third floor, so the view of the rooftops from the breakfast room was enchanting. We would most definetely stay there again. Thank you for your website. We never would have found this wonderful B&B if it wasn't for you!

Additionally, on one of our walks exploring Florence, we discovered a wonderful ceramic shop called "M.G. Deisgn". This shop is run by the artist and the pottery is some of the most beautiful that we saw in the city. It is in the heart of the historic center in Florence, few minutes away from the Duomo. Each piece is unique and very beautiful. The address in Via Ghibellina, 119R. Enjoy!

Cynthia,

We had a lovely stay in Italy. The week we spent at Palazzo Ruspoli came at the end of our trip, after we had spent a week in a farmhouse in Umbria and then three nights in Monterosso in Le Cinque Terre. So we had three very different miniature vacation experiences, all of which were fabulous.

We really enjoyed our stay at Ruspoli. The staff was very friendly and helpful across the board. The room was very spacious and well-appointed; the very tall ceilings and picture view of the Duomo out of our window combined to provide a very regal effect in the room. The elevator is a convenience which we are accustomed to in America but is relatively rare in these converted palaces; guests in certain other hotels might find themselves hoofing it up three or more flights of stairs to get to their rooms.

I think people will either love or hate the location. Being directly across from the Duomo and the Baptistery mean that guests are right in the middle of all of the attractions Florence has to offer. It is the ideal distance from all of the major museums, the San Lorenzo market, Santa Croce, the Ponte Vecchio...But because of its convenience, the location is very congested with people and traffic. The hotel is situated just outside of the pedestrian-only zone in the historic center, so there are a lot of cars and buses on the street below. It is somewhat noisy. And there are throngs of people you will literally have to push your way through upon leaving the hotel at certain peak hours of the day (morning and evening commutes, lunchtime).

But all in all, Palazzo Ruspoli is an excellent value for its price, a unique hotel with beautiful rooms, highly professional staff and a very convenient location. I would recommend it to anyone who is in Florence to see all of the major tourist sights.

Jessica:

Thanks for the inquiry. We really enjoyed ourselves at the Palazzo Ruspoli. Good surprises include: (1) the location right across from the Duomo, (2) that we actually were given "a room with a view" of the Duomo and didn't have to ask/beg for one, and (3) the charming décor and size of the room (it felt like a being in a palazzo). This hotel was the best of our stay. I believe there may have been some guest criticism about breakfast or cleaning on your website (or another site that reprints guest comments), but we didn't have any issues with either of these matters.

I will say that I was surprised that the morning street traffic is loud enough to wake me from sleep notwithstanding the closed shutters and windows, being on the third floor and the prior night's wine. Not much can be done about that, I suppose, and I wouldn't give up the view anyway.

Thanks again for your firm's help.

Dear In Italy,

What an excellent location! The hotel was in the very heart of Florence and across from the magnificiant green and white marble Duomo. Looking out our window we could actually admire Brunelleschi's incredible dome! We felt like we were living in an elegant apartment building. The only drawback to some might be the entry. It reminded me of a small office building in a large US city like Chicago. You enter at street level into a empty foyer and take the elevator up to your floor.. Because this hotel is on a main thoroughfare, there were always people in the doorway and sometimes in the hallway downstairs, waiting for buses. But the positive is there were all sorts of shops lining the street. The hotel is located in the historic area that is restricted to private traffic so arriving by taxi as we did is the best way to get here. The staff were very professional, very gracious, very helpful and all spoke very good English. The actual hotel lobby was very comfortable and the walls covered with framed black & white photos of old time American movie stars. Our room was enormous and very lovely. It looked like the photos. We would stay here again.
