Taormina Centro B&B

Lovely Taormina is one of Europe’s favorite vacation spots. It just seems to have everything: unforgettable views, proximity to sandy beaches, rocky coves and spectacular Mount Etna, scores of historic buildings, a beautifully preserved and panoramic Greek theatre, great shopping, delicious food, friendly natives and, as if all that weren’t enough, it boasts mild weather year-round! There are only two things that keep many people away: the high cost of hotels and the lack of ANY hotels in the winter months. Now, finally, here is an exception to that rule: a delightful little guesthouse right in the center of town that offers very reasonable prices twelve months of the year. Believe us, if you would like to take advantage of low air fares by scheduling a winter getaway, the notion of making this your base is not a bad one at all! If you prefer to come at another time of year, you’ll still find low prices, and you’ll be thrilled to be only steps away from the main street.
When you get to Taormina, you will enter through the monumental ancient gate to the city, Porta Catania. About 20 feet from the gate, a series of terraces open onto the main street, Corso Umberto. Climb a few of these terraces (there are about 30 steps up from the street), turn a corner, and you will be at the front door of this B&B. Nestled inside the ancient wall that leads to the gate, it actually has a little garden that is bordered by the wall. The rooms are all very clean, and they are bright and sunny thanks to big windows, many of which face the ancient wall. Amenities include air conditioning, heating, satellite TV, and telephone, and each room has a private tiled bathroom with stall shower. Buffet breakfast is served every morning across the street. Whether you plan to spend your time sightseeing in the area (which includes the Greek theatre, the Roman mosaics at Piazza Armerina, visits to the renowned local wine cellars, day trips to Messina, Catania, Siracusa, and Noto), or climbing Mt. Etna, or sunning at a nearby beach, or swimming in the crystal-clear waters of the sea, or just shopping for ceramics and other local artisan crafts in town, you will find it easy to get around by car or bus, and every evening you’ll have a wide choice of excellent restaurants where you can sample the memorable local cuisine, based on hyper-fresh seafood and produce from the area.
