This nice family home is surrounded by a large private garden near the top of a hill overlooking the sea along the Tuscany-Liguria border. Although it is only 10 km from the shore, it is high enough in the foothills of the Apuan Alps to provide cool temperatures in summer, beautiful colors in autumn and heavily-scented flowers in spring. Just 300 meters down the road is a beautifully preserved medieval hamlet, where you can enjoy a drink on the ancient terrace after your delightful hike through the woods. Because it is slightly off the beaten track, this area offers a wonderful opportunity to experience Italy as the Italians do, not merely as a foreign holiday destination.
Inside, Villa Toscana is furnished like an authentic Italian home, with a mixture of comfortable contemporary pieces and pretty antiques. On the main entry level there's a double living room with sofas and chairs, fireplace, card table, satellite TV, and telephone as well as a modern eat-in kitchen with full stove, refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher, plenty of dishes and cookware, an iron and ironing board. Across the hall is a large bathroom with shower and hair dryer.
Upstairs are a double bedroom that overlooks the balcony and valley, a twin room overlooking the garden, and between them, a bathroom with bathtub.
Downstairs, on the garden level, a third double
bedroom can be accessed from within or through its own door on the
garden. A bathroom with shower completes this level. The house has central heating throughout, and there is
a washing machine on a covered patio. Your family is bound to spend time enjoying the garden, which has a
table and chairs, sun lounges, an outdoor shower and a wood-burning oven that can be used for pizza or for
barbecuing.
Despite its proximity to the village, the property is totally
secluded and private. Just down the road is the lovely hilltown of Camaiore;
Lucca (25 km) and Pisa (30 km) are only slightly farther. Day trips are easy
to the five delightful fishing villages called Cinqueterre (65 km). If you're
here in summer you'll surely want to experience a day at the beach or relax by
the 22 x 12-foot swimming pool;
any
time
of year is great to explore the almost entirely unknown hills of the Garfagnana,
the only part of Tuscany that has escaped the attention of mass tourism and retained
the authenticity of centuries past.
