Character: Upscale Tuscan apartments on a small, friendly winery estate just south of Florence. Advantages: Good central location; great views; very friendly hosts. Location: 3 km from Cerbaia, near the Florence-Pisa superstrada and easy to find. Excellent location for visiting all parts of Tuscany. The Chianti wineries are all nearby, and Siena is under an hour's drive. Click here to see a map. Size: Ten apartments. Each is furnished with nice pieces and pretty fabrics. Studios have a living room with double sleep sofa, kitchenette and bathroom with shower. All others have a living/dining room with kitchenette, one or two double bedrooms and one or two bathrooms with shower. Features: Satellite TV, telephone, safe, shared swimming pool and washing machine, excellent Tuscan restaurant. Minimum stay: Saturday-to-Saturday; 3 nights also except in July and August. Disadvantages: The property is secluded, but there are ten apartments so you won't have total privacy. If you're traveling with kids, this becomes an advantage! Car needed: Yes.

It's hard to believe this property is just a stone's throw from Florence, when all around as far as the eye can see is an ocean of sunflowers, vineyards and cypress forests, broken only occasionally by a Tuscan stone farmhouse. To reach the enclave, you drive down a narrow "white road," as gravel roads are called in Italy. You soon see the cream-colored guest houses, carefully arranged on a gently sloping hill below the owners' elegant 17th-century villa. In just minutes, you have crossed an invisible threshold into another world of impeccably tended details and warm courteous hospitality.

Chianti Vistas is small, with only ten apartments. Their appointments are stunning, including color satellite TV with English language channels, direct-dial telephone, brand-new kitchens, terracotta floors, high wood-beamed ceilings, central heating and furniture painted in soothing pastel colors.

Each apartment features one or two double bedrooms, a large living room with sleep sofa and wooden dining table, a kitchenette, and a roomy bathroom with shower. Two of the larger apartments have two bathrooms. One-bedroom apartments measure 550 sq. ft.; two-bedrooms measure 700 sq. ft.
