Sisters Silvia and Sabrina Maestrelli welcome you to Tuscany and Fuoriporta Castle Coiano! The Maestrelli family has recently restored a number of farmhouses for guests on their property of more than 300 hectares in the heart of Tuscany.
Steeped in history, this estate goes back to the year 1000. In the Middle Ages, Coiano was an important stop for pilgrims crossing Italy on their way to Rome. A parish church, a castle and a series of farmhouses were built on this site. Belonging in the past to some of the most noble Florentine families, the castle has been famous since the year 1300 for its wine and olive oil production. In addition to vineyards and olive trees, the estate cultivates grain, corn, and sunflowers. The property is positioned in a charming natural framework with splendid vistas, three lovely lakes, and a natural woodland, home to a wild game preserve.
Long ago guests found rest and refreshment in the peace and beauty of these lands. Today the modern pilgrim’s search is over. True Tuscan hospitality can be found with the Maestrelli family. On the grounds there is a lovely large swimming pool that looks onto an incredible view of the valley. The large hayloft has been turned into a communal relaxation area with a reading room and there is also a small gym. A laundry room on the premises with a dryer can be used by all guests.
Fuoriporta is an excellent starting point for excursions by car, by foot, or by mountain bike. In the immediate vicinity, many charming Tuscan hilltop towns can be visited including San Gimignano, San Miniato, Certaldo and Vinci. Day excursions can be easily made to the art cities of Lucca, Pisa, Volterra, Siena and Florence. For the old and the young, archery sessions, treasure hunts in the nearby woods, and map orientation exercises can be organized. And you can not complete your stay at Fuoriporta without visiting the adjacent Coiano Castle with its ancient wine cellar which goes down 18 meters deep and the old olive mill!
