Lerici is one of our favorite seaside towns in Italy because it offers everything: breathtaking views of a huge bay ringed with evergreen hills and dotted with fairy–tale castles; a host of excellent restaurants and night spots; close proximity to the autostrada, the Cinque Terre and Tuscany. This little hotel has a couple of added bonuses. In the first place, extremely limited traffic is allowed on the street, so it is nice and quiet. Secondly, it is directly in front of a wide, sandy beach where lucky folks swim in some of the cleanest water in Europe from May to October. Check in here, go off for a day’s hiking in the Cinque Terre or along the coast of Portofino, or shopping in the resort towns of Santa Margherita and Rapallo, then come on home and enjoy the beach for a couple of hours, followed by a walk down the shore to dinner in the lively little village of Lerici. It’s a lifestyle that adds up to make the Quintessential Vacation!
The hotel is small, with only 37 rooms, each of which has a balcony that faces the sea. Some face front-on and others are lateral, but all the views are stunning and panoramic so none is better than another. The rooms are not large, but big plate-glass doors make them seem bigger, and they have every amenity you would like, including air conditioning, satellite TV, electronic safe, direct-dial telephone, wireless Internet connection, an empty mini-fridge that you can stock with whatever you like, and a private bathroom with stall shower and hair dryer. There is one room with a queen bed that connects to a room with bunk beds and shares a bathroom; there are other rooms that have a single daybed with a pull-out bed beneath it (for two adults and two children). Single rooms have a single bed, and all the rooms have either carpet or parquet floors. There is a sundeck for everyone to use, and an Internet point in the lobby. A nice buffet breakfast is served before you head off for your day of discovering lovely Liguria.
