Villa Meligunis's Guestbook

Back to Villa Meligunis

Dear In Italy,

Thanks for your help in making reservations for our trip to Sicily. The Villa Meligunis in Lipari was really wonderful, especially the location so close to the Marina. The terrace, with its shade cover, is visible from the sea as you approach the dock. What a great location! Love that rooftop terrace and restaurant.

We really enjoyed this part of the trip, but would caution anyone planning a visit that the winds can play havoc with your plans -- we arrived at Milazzo on a beautiful, sunny but very windy day, only to discover that all the hydrofoils and ferries were cancelled (apparently the issue is the approach to the docks in Lipari, which is very difficult in the high winds). We visited the castello in Milazzo (highly recommended, for anyone with a few hours to spare while waiting for a ferry) and eventually the winds died down enough so that the ferries ran in the evening. We were a little anxious about the return trip from Lipari to Milazzo a few days later, scheduled for the day before our departing flight from Catania, but luckily the winds were not a problem that day -- I would not schedule so tightly again, but would leave a few days leeway. But even with the difficulties in getting there and associated anxiety, we thought Lipari and the Villa Meligunis were wonderful, and I'd love to spend a week or so there, exploring Lipari, its beaches, and cruising to the other islands.

Thanks again --
Judy A.

Hi Jessica,

Villa Meligunis was just beautiful. The roof top dining had a magnificent view. The food was fantastic. It was only an hour by ferry from Milazzo. We were great by many tour guides. These tours were inexpensive. We took a zodiac to the island of Vulcano. There volcanic mud baths of which I took. Then to bath in sea, which was bubbling and warm. The same evening we took a dinner cruise to the island of Stromboli. We stopped for an afternoon swim then proceeded on. We disembarked for about 2 hours and walked through the narrow streets. When we got back to the boat we had dinner. Then as dusk came we watched the molten lava plunge into the sea. We returned to the town of Mondello which was our home base. The Villa Meligunis is a four star hotel. When we are in Mondello, we stay at a hotel residence. I prefer this type of hotel for a length of time because I like the lay-backed feeling of home. We have breakfast, in our room and a little happy-hour before dinner. We can afford to move around. We can move around with ease. We traveled to Trapani, Marsala, and SVito Capo which has the most beautiful beach in Sicily. Pure white fine sand and blue waters. Our next visit to Sicily we want to stay in this small beach town. It has an African influence. Thanks for your help with our reservation. Could you please send me some information on the Egadi Islands. I also would like to them and Sardinia.

Thanks again,
Josephine B.

Dear In Italy,

Villa Meligunis was absolutely a joy.The service was impeccable!! The staff was just delightful and the location was convenient. Situated near the port. The restaurant was lovely and the food and wine offered was scrumptious. This is a must stay if you plan to visit Lipari. My favorite meal was at La Nassa, unbelievable local cuisine and the owner is a very interesting and comical fellow. His mother cooks for the restaurant. It's right up the road. We took a night trek up a volcano in Stromboli, if you are physically up for it you will not regret it. The volcano is active every 15 minutes!! Don't pass up a night at Turmalin Disco the location is breathtaking and group line dancing meringue Italian style is hysterical, but be prepared to sweat bullets they take their dancing seriously.

Thank you,
Lisa F.
