Lake Bolsena Country Inn's Guestbook

Back to Lake Bolsena Country Inn

Dear In Italy,

Firstly thank you for all the information and emails for room and dinner reservations etc. We had a marvellous 3 nights at Lake Bolsena Country Inn after a small disappointment at the start.

We were allocated a room somewhat uphill and away from the action! However the next morning a room became vacant in the main guest residence, which we availed of, with terrace, two steps from the restaurant and main terrace with proximity to swimming pool and we then felt right in the action! Being up in the Falconiere (?) while the views breathtaking, it was too far to tread up and down for breakfast and dinner and indeed the rooms were superior down in the main guest residence (i.e. furnishings and showerpower). All staff we met and dealt with could not have been nicer or any more accommodating. Our experience there was a really relaxing one.

The substantial breakfasts provided would set any explorer up for the day. Our three evening meals, prefaced by a glass of prosecco, were tasty and accompanied by a bottle of complementing house wine. We look forward to a return visit.

Again thank you for your assistance.

With kind regards,
Celine M. K.

To the people at In Italy,

We had a fabulous vacation!! The accommodations we made with you were wonderful, and the services (shuttle, ticket vouchers) worked out perfectly. The next time we travel to Italy we will use your services for everything! The only problem we had during the trip was with the rental car that we rented through a travel agent. Thank you for offering such wonderful services.

Lake Bolsena Country Inn was a slice of heaven. The views are spectacular, the accommodations are lovely, and the caretakers are very kind. Dinner at the Lake Bolsena Country Inn is also a must. The evening we ate there was a highlight of our trip. We also enjoyed the village on Bolsena and found an absolutely fabulous pizzeria tucked away to the left of the town square. Our family had one of our tastiest meals there, and it was easily our least expensive.

Thank you for providing such a wonderful website and services!!

The Aulicino Family

Dear In Italy,

I just wanted to let you know what a marvelous time we had at Lake Bolsena Country Inn. We ended up staying one more day than originally planned and we loved every minute. The staff we all so nice. Dinner was at 8:00pm each evening and before that there was champagne, olives, cheese, salami, nuts, etc. before. The dinners were comparable to a 4-star restaurant!  There was not one meal that we absolutely did not love!!  The room we had was on the first floor, spacious and clean. We drove to Orvieto twice and Civita one day as side trips and both were enjoyable. We ate at a little cafe right on the lake for lunch twice and really liked that too. I don't remember the name of it. We were just trying to spend some time relaxing after completing a 15 day intense tour of Sicily and the south of Italy and starting a 10 day pilgrimage to Assisi. I would highly recommend this resort.

Dear In Italy,

Our stay at Lake Bolsena Country Inn was better than we imagined.  The rooms, the staff, and the countryside were spectacular.  There is so much to see in Bolsena. The staff at Lake Bolsena Country Inn showed us many great local treasures.  Any trip to the region should include a trip to the Church of Santa Cristina where they have a tour of catacombs.  The museum in Bolsena was quite a bargain and gave a nice history of Lake Bolsena, the largest volcanic lake in Europe, and there were beautiful views from the old castle walls up top.

We also visited Viterbo, a medieval walled city, and the "hanging city" near Bagnoregio.  There was so much history in this region of Lazio and the scenery was beautiful.

There were many more things to see, but we only had three days.  We plan to go back to the same place the next time we are in Italy.

Guy

Dear In Italy,

Thank You! Our trip was wonderful.

Lake Bolsena Country Inn is an extraordinary property. 75 acres up a hillside with an amazing view of Lake Bolsena and the area. Cool breezes blow and the grounds are beautifully kept. It was a highlight of our trip. Especially amazing as it was less than 1 hundred Euros a night. The staff was terrific. This is an overlooked small area, close to Rome, and the residents like it that way. I have some lovely pictures of the property. We will return there for sure. It is very close to Orvieto, and an easy drive to the airport- a very pastoral area. Thanks for your website. It was very helpful.

Thank you, Jessica.

We had a lovely trip.

Lake Bolsena Country Inn is a magical place. We loved it. We loved the lake and the area, too. The Agrotourismo itself is peaceful and lovely and the staff is wonderful and accommodating. Marco is delightful and the food is fabulous. Sadly, the clay court tennis court was under a landslide while we were there. We were looking forward to trying it out. Things I would recommend in the area include: renting a space on the beach at the place with the orange umbrellas (it's very easy to spot). The beach is great, the lake is wonderful to swim in and the food is really good. Take the boat out to the island. The boat itself is peaceful and nice and the island is interesting. Go to the Monster Park. It's really super and cool.

All-in-all, everything was wonderful and all of your recommendations were great. We can't thank you enough! We told everyone we met and everyone we've talked to since about InItaly.com. We think you're the greatest.

p.s. we had a great car, too!

Best,
Kate B.

Dear In Italy,

Lake Bolsena Country Inn was exactly what I expected - beautiful scenery, charming and helpful people, very peaceful, and fantastic food.  The rooms are sparsely furnished but large and clean; the private bathroom was modern; we had no complaints at all.  I found family in Bolsena and in Ischia di Castro, which made the trip even better.  Travelers to the area should definitely make a side trip to Bagnoregio, a fairy tale medieval village high up on a mountain, only accessibly by a long foot bridge.

We spent a total of 2 1/2 weeks in Italy, including Florence and Rome, and I definitely would go back to the Viterbo area.  The clear air, fresh food, and peaceful streets are hard to beat.  We found folks everywhere very kind, although travelers should be forewarned that in the smaller villages few (or no!) people speak English.

Hope this is helpful.

Dear In Italy,

We had a very enjoyable time at Lake Bolsena Country Inn. I would recommend this place between the major sights in Italy so you can kick back and relax for a day or two. My husband and I had just finished touring Venice and Rome so the quiet country life here provided us the rest we needed. Unfortunately it was raining so we could not go hike around like we planned, but we ended up just as happy lounging around and reading in our comfortable room. Also we arrived on Christmas day so we never got the chance to meet Marco. The language barrier was tough because nobody spoke very good English, but we just made it through. We ate dinner there both nights..it was incredible. The cooks even invited us up to the kitchen for a look around. Julia, the waitress was so nice. She treated us very well when we were there. The food was so good and very unique. I would highly recommend eating here. We had a romantic dinner by candlelight right next to the roaring fire. We have already decided we will be back some time in the future.

Thanks for everything Lake Bolsena Country Inn,

Ashley & Jimmy J.

Hi Jessica,

We had a wonderful trip to Italy and in total stayed at 5 different places. Lake Bolsena Country Inn was beautiful. I was expecting more of a farm and was delighted and surprised to find this beautiful resort. We had a beautiful room-bright and airy. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We had fun exploring the grounds and getting some exercise in the process. Our intention had been to go in to Rome for a day but after we saw Lake Bolsena we decided to stay around the area. We spent time on the shore of the lake and also went to Bagnareggio a very old town built by the Etruscans that was nearby. I would recommend that place to visit. I wasn't overly impressed with the food but I don't really care about that so much.

Hope this is helpful. Thanks for your help.

Katherine D.

Dear In Italy,

Lake Bolsena Country Inn was a dream, and our host, Marco, took great pride in telling us about the area surrounding Lake Bolsena. The rooms were nice, the grounds beautiful, and the food was out of this world....no-one staying here should miss having at least one dinner here. We ate here both nights!! Our favourite spot to visit here was a town named Bagnoreggio, accessible only by a foot path. You have to be in pretty good shape to climb up there, but it is spectacular. Make sure to try the bruschetta in the little bar just past the town square. We took the train to Florence from here as it was only 1 1/2 hours.

I will definitely return to Italy many more times and will certainly use initaly again. Once again, thank you for making my dream trip to Italy fantastic!

Irene D.

Hi:

We had a wonderful time in Italy, and are highly recommending your service to many friends who one day hope to go to Italy too.

La Lake Bolsena Country Inn was quite lovely. The owner Marco was engaging, and the views from our room astonishingly beautiful. HOWEVER our breakfast every morning was marred by wasps who were attracted to the sweet sweet pastries and juice served, and we found we ran away quicker because of their presence. Excellent dinners though. We did also find, of all things, a scorpion in our bathroom one evening which sorta freaked us out at the time.

Carol L.

Dear In Italy,

We thoroughly enjoyed the Lake Bolsena Country Inn. We were impressed by the kind and gracious hospitality given to us the entire time we were there by all of the staff members. I even got sick and they were able to phone a doctor for me and help me get some prescription medication. It was fabulous. We also loved the food. The location of this particular B&B couldn't be beat. It is quiet, relaxing and above all beautiful. If anyone is able to stay here I'd recommend some day trips to the hillside towns such as Orvieto. Also, take time to just enjoy Lake Bolsena and the B&B!

Sincerely,
Samantha Z.

Dear Julie:

Lake Bolsena Country Inn was more beautiful than we could have expected! The description online did not do it justice. After spending a few days in Florence and Siena, we spent two nights at the Inn and loved it so much we canceled a night in Rome so we could enjoy it a little longer. The food was wonderful, the guests we met were enjoyable (in fact, we traded addresses), and the staff could not have been more accommodating or kind.

The only drawback was our lack of a car. Although Fabio, the manager, came to Orvieto to pick us up, it was a 30-minute car ride, and he is so busy all day that we felt it quite an imposition. Also, the town of Bolsena is a bit longer walk than we expected, and we had to share the narrow road with traffic.

This was our first trip to Europe and we can't wait to go back. Although I only used InItaly.com for one of our accommodations, next time we go we would leave the entire trip in your hands! I've told everyone about your website and how helpful you were with our "last minute" requests at an extremely busy time of year. Thank you again, and I hope to be contacting you soon!

Ciao,
Kim

Dear Cynthia,

Thank you for the welcome home letter. I would like to share a few comments about our trip to Italy and specifically our stay at La Lake Bolsena Country Inn. First of all, Lake Bolsena Country Inn was just what the doctor ordered. If you're looking for something out in the country away from the crowds, this is it. It was very peaceful, charming, and a beautiful view all rolled into one setting. The host, Marco and the entire staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room in the main house was a bit rustic but met our needs in every way. We did find some very good restaurants in the surrounding areas but we felt the best meals we had were right there at Lake Bolsena Country Inn. Excellent!

As most people do, we were in Italy to see the sights. From Lake Bolsena Country Inn you are within 30 to 45 minutes from a number of outstanding highlights of italian history. Most of the places we visited did not have the large crowds we were expecting. We enjoyed being able to explore the small towns and villages without bumping into all the other tourists.

Roma was a different story. I would strongly suggest that people who would like to visit Rome on a day trip take the train from Oriveto. Orvieto is 20 minutes away from Lake Bolsena Country Inn and has free parking available. The train ride is about an hour long but very relaxing. As most people will tell you, it would take a considerable amount of your time to get in and around roma in a car. The biggest problem is parking. Very expensive in the city. Word of advice, learn how to pay for parking before you go. It will save you some frustration and perhaps a parking ticket! For us the train was the way to go.

Overall our stay in Italy and at Lake Bolsena Country Inn was wonderful. The only real negative comment I have was actually our fault. Anyone who plans to go should plan to learn the basics of the Italian Language. We were frustrated a number of times not being able to understand people. We found very few people who spoke english.

Thanks again,
Bart C.

Dear In Italy,

Our last stop was Lake Bolsena Country Inn, in the outskirts of Bolsena. The food is very good there, with terrific ambience provided by the staff and a mix of nationalities in the guests. The accommodations themselves leave a bit to be desired. Somewhat Spartan, even by European standards. Service is not very good. There is lodging at three levels, each having a house and pool. Two of the three pools were closed when we were there (mechanical problems). Food is only served at the first level, and the top two levels are only reasonably accessible by car. The only things to recommend this facility, in my mind, are the fine food, and the view of the lake.

Side trips must include Orvieto, a lovely perched town, about a half hour from the lodging. We were there the day of Corpus Domini. For that day, the townspeople have a procession lasting at least two hours. The participants are all dressed in period costumes. It culminates at the Cathedral square. Absolutely delightful. Even without that, it's a tourist destination that should not be missed. Viterbo is OK for a quick trip. Although numerous little towns abound around the lake region, little else recommends them to me. Rome is the destination of choice while here. Easily reached by train from Orvieto, although somewhat pricey for any train that isn't a "milk run" (around $50 for two adults and two kids). However, it sure beats driving!!!

Your service in arranging the lodging was excellent, and we will certainly ask you for assistance again, should we go back to Italy. Our current thoughts are to hit the South next time.

Thanks again,
Mike D.

Cynthia,

We had a MARVELOUS trip and Italy WAS fascinating! There was too much to see. Lake Bolsena Country Inn was fine and the meals were good. We arrived and were met by Fabio who gave us the option of taking a room in the upper building. We did and enjoyed a beautiful view from the patio. Other than a very dark vestibule and one night next to a noisy neighbor, the room was good. Unfortunately we didn't meet Marco until the morning we were leaving. He gave us a quick idea of the history of Bolsena but I would have liked to know more about the farm and some of the brochure offerings. The swimming pool was just being filled. Marco did recommend a boat trip to the island in the Lake but we were headed out.

We arrived at the inn on the backroads from Orvieto, and backtracked the next day to check out some of the Etruscan ruins indicated by signs. They didn't show up on the map but did give us enough of an idea of what the hype was about. The day we left. we were headed for Saturnia and ran into Pitigliano along the way. What an awesome town with Roman aqueducts and bridges. We toured a very nice (all Italian) Etruscan museum in the old castle in town. Later on we read that the church there is quite beautiful but didn't get to see it ourselves.

Our goal at Saturnia was to experience the natural hot waterfall. If you want to swim in a thermal pool, go to Saturnia Terme. If you want to do the waterfall, go about 1 kM past the Terme until the road curves sharp left. At that point, go straight ahead where all the cars are. The experience of being massaged by a pounding river of very warm (not hot) water is unlike anything I had enjoyed before. And it was FREE!

Italy was very beautiful with many wildflowers and gardens in bloom. We packed a lot into two weeks starting with the art in Florence, on to the Lake Bolsena Country Inn, followed by a cottage south of Siena, a short hike on the Cinque Terre, and wrapped it up on Lake Como. Not bad for a honeymoon!! We look forward to going back.

Best Regards,
Mark S.

Salutations Marco,

Just wanted to thank you for a wonderful stay, and your gracious hospitality at Lake Bolsena Country Inn. They only thing wrong with our stay was that it was too short. Two days are not enough at your fine establishment.

Lake Bolsena Country Inn is a great location from which to visit such spots as Orvieto and Todi, just to mention a couple of the nearby charming towns. But above all, Lake Bolsena Country Inn is such a serene and picturesque place to return to at the end of each day. We were so happy to have decided to take the half-board option. The food was superb, the dining room cozy and romantic, and the service warm and excellent.

Again many thanks for your fine hospitality and kindness. And we must not forget to mention that your organic olive oil is absolutely delicious!

Looking forward to seeing you again soon.

Cheers from Canada.
Ciao!
Eryk and Olga P.

Cynthia,

Thanks for the follow-up to our trip. I am glad you reminded me to share with you the success of our trip. Let me start out by thanking you and all of the crew at InItaly for the type of service that is missing in most other businesses today. I called at the last minute with a car request after another reservation (through another service) turned out to be twice as expensive as was quoted. You guys not only handled the car rental beautifully and professionally, but also at the last minute. And it was alot cheaper!

Lake Bolsena Country Inn was marvelous. The views of Lake Bolsena were spectacular from our room. We shared the whole place with only one other couple. Dinner at Lake Bolsena Country Inn was a special treat. Chef, as we called him, was a quirky and expressive gentleman whose cooking, we found out, was learned from his mother. And well learned it was as he served up some of the best food on our trip. It was incredible dining in front of the huge fireplace as we were served the best that Lake Bolsena Country Inn had to offer. The second night was even more enchanting as we had Chef and the whole place to ourselves. Needless to say, we gladly paid the, roughly, $20 U.S. more for full board.

Marco, the owner, was very helpful in pointing out some of the places to see. The 'Monster Park' outside Bomarzo was a treat we again enjoyed as the only people in the place. We probably could have spent a whole day just driving around Lake Bolsena and some of the quiet little towns that surround it.

Julie:

Our stay at Lake Bolsena Country Inn was excellent. The surrounding country side, and the little town of Bolsena was just what we were looking for. The staff treated us very well, and the meals were excellent. The chef not only cooked our food, but served us as well. There were roses on all the tables as well as candles, and a fire in the fireplace. We stayed for 2 nights, and visited Orvieto one day and found it to be well worth the visit. The next day we drove 2 hours to Port Stefano. Port Stefano was a beautiful ocean city, and we enjoyed it very much. The pictures we took are some of the best scenery of our visit.

The directions from Lake Bolsena Country Inn from Rome was good, but it takes two people to be alert so as not to make an error in navigating your way there. We rented our car at the terminal in Rome, and navigating a car in Rome was very stressful. It took us 2 hours to get out of Rome to the Highway, but only one hour to get from the highway back to Rome to drop our car off at the terminal. I would not recommend driving a car in Rome. The traffic, the pedestrians, and especially the MANY Motor Scooters makes driving a nightmare.

Thanks for your assistance in reserving a room at Lake Bolsena Country Inn
Randy & Annette D.

Dear Marco,

You may remember the 3 Australians who visited your property on the 2nd and 3rd of November. We have now returned home and are back at work . Our beautiful holiday in Italy is just a memory!

We wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our stay (although very brief) at Lake Bolsena Country Inn. Thank you too for sharing your knowledge and experiences of the archaeology of the Bolsena area and your property with us. We are planning to return to the area some time in the near future (perhaps next year if all goes well) and give ourselves enough time to explore the area more thoroughly. Bolsena has a lovely friendly atmosphere - we wandered around the shops, bought food and some things to take home but didn't have time to visit the Castle. Since we've returned home, we've also read more about Etruscan history and are really looking forward to another trip.

Unfortunately, we were there during the rain and you were frantically trying to find some dry weather to pick your kiwi fruit. Hope you were able to pick successfully. We drove right up to the top of your property before we left that morning and were amazed at the huge quantities of fruit on the vines. We also enjoyed the lovely views from up high there.

Anyway, again our thanks for your hospitality and especially for the wonderful bottle of Vin Santo which will bring back wonderful memories as we enjoy drinking it.

Kindest regards,
John & Christine H.
and Christine's mother, Peggy S.

Dear Kristin,

The next place we stayed was Lake Bolsena Country Inn. The food here was wonderful and we enjoyed both nights eating at the hotel. The host Marco and the chef could not have been more accommodating to our needs and helped us with phone calls and setting out an early breakfast so that we could be on our way early in the AM of our departure. The scenery here overlooking the Lake is absolutely gorgeous. Marco helped us with our travel plans and told us places not to be missed in the area. The tour in Rome at the Vatican with Eli was outstanding and something that we would repeat again. He was incredibly knowledgeable and so interesting to listen to. He really went out of his way to help us and stayed on after the four hours was completed. I have recommended this web site to friends who will be traveling to Italy next year and we hope to be able to come back next year, we threw coins in the Trevi fountain we will see if it works.

Thank you again so much for all your help,
Nancy and Paul D.

Dear Cynthia,

Lake Bolsena Country Inn was just wonderful. The setting is beautiful - particularly the little dining room. They had a fire going in the evening which made it that much more enjoyable and relaxing. Given that we never seemed to make it back before nightfall and had to deal with the twisty winding roads in the dark - we needed to relax! I might add that all the way back we would be wondering what would be for dinner that evening. Although there is no selection on the meals, I would highly recommend that people go with the half board. The food is absolutely fantastic and is a bargain at the price. We used it as a jumping off point to take the train to Rome and to visit Umbria (Orvieto, Assisi, Todi). Perhaps the only negative was the shower and shower curtain could have been a bit cleaner - the mildew was evident. But, in this price range I can be quite forgiving, particularly when the place itself is quite charming.

Sincerely,
Marian and Bill E

Hi.

Thanks for asking. These folks bent over backwards for us several times in terms of us being late for meals. They worked very hard to make it a pleasant stay for us. It is a very scenic location. The dinners were very well prepared. They definitely should be kept in your suggested lodging directory.

Regards,
