Hello!
I have been meaning to write and tell you how happy we were with the two hotels we booked through your site, and the car rental as well.
My husband and I traveled to Italy in September. After five glorious days in Venice, we picked up the rental car and drove to Tuscany. We stayed at Palazzo Mannaioni. Our room was beautiful, the staff was helpful and the restaurant was superb. We ate there two of the three nights of our stay. The breakfasts were also wonderful. We drove through the beautiful hills to several towns and enjoyed everything about Tuscany!
We then traveled on to Spoleto where we stayed at Palazzo Dragoni. Again, our experience was wonderful. The view from our room was breathtaking! More great breakfasts, and a staff that went above and beyond! Our plan was to drop off the rental car and take the train to Rome. To our chagrin, we learned that the rental office was nowhere near the train station, in an industrial part of the town. No problem! said our host as he picked up the phone, arranged for the rental company to pick up the car at the hotel (for a modest cost we were happy to pay, ) and he then arranged for a cab to pick us up and take us to the train station!
While Palazzo Dragoni did not have a restaurant, Spoleto has so many wonderful restaurants! We thoroughly enjoyed exploring Umbria!
My only regret is that we found your website after I had booked hotels in Venice and Rome! Since we love Italy passionately, we are planning another trip for next September/October. This time we would like to go to the south -- Naples, Pompeii, Amalfi coast, Sicily.
Thanks so much!

Dear Jessica,
Yes, we had a marvelous trip!
The four of us drove to Spoleto. How can I describe the Palazzo Dragoni. A 14 th century palazzo now considered a historic residence. The lobby is impressive in its simplicity--- an antique chest, settee, and their business desk. The keys are very large and antique looking so when you leave your room and hand in your key they are lined up on the desk (nice touch). The rooms are off the lobby and have beautiful old wood doors and frames. Our room (No. 8), on the 2 nd floor is large and beautifully elegant with a high ceiling painted with cherubs and clouds. There is a sitting area with a table and chairs. It has an antique chest and end bed tables. Best of all, there is a canopied bed!! Silk drapery adorns both the bed and the windows. French doors open to beautiful views of Spoleto. Church bells in the morning let you know that you’re really in Italy. The buffet breakfast in the sun drenched loggia was varied and ample.
We used Spoleto as our hub for touring the surrounding area towns----- Todi, Orvieto, and Montefalco
This was a wonderful trip. We would stay at the hotels again, but In Italy has so many other marvelous recommendations we need to explore.
Mille grazie,
Don and Barbara O.
Dear Jessica-
Well, In Italy came through again! Our stay in Sept 2005 at the Palazzo Dragoni was wonderful! Yes, it is hard to find.........their signs are very helpful if you look for them, but WOW...it was so worth it. We stayed in 5-Star Hotels all through Europe last time and we couldn't have been happier with this wonderful hotel! The room had the killer view of the town and valley. We had #8 with the small balcony. It was a large room with two chairs and a small table. We thought we had booked a two bedroom with two baths but on arrival they said there wasn't such a room. Our friends had room #10 on the upper floor, nice but smaller. You might want to change the info on this....sure wouldn't work if a family thought they were adjoining.
Anyway, the breakfast was more than we thought....so much to choose from...and even pies and brownies! And the hosts were so helpful and their smiles warmed the day! Spoleto wasn't my first choice to stay in but I am so glad we did! It is wonderful....the greatest of the old towns of Umbria. We will always remember our time there! AND THAT VIEW!
Thank you again..........
Thank you for always being so reliable!

Dear All at Italy on Line,
Just a quick email to give some feedback as I am sure that you don't get the whole picture from people and it's nice to be able to say thanks whilst offering constructive criticism. First of all - thank you for making the investigation, information and decision process so easy, my lack of effort before hand made your help necessary and your speedy, efficient and polite responses were just what was needed.
Generally speaking Italy is wonderful, reasonably prices in places and everywhere friendly and beautiful. I have to say that it appears as if Tuscany is or is in danger of being ruined but Umbria, Abruzzo & Marches unspoilt, the most beautiful and friendliest areas.
Palazzo Dragoni: brilliant, beautiful, couldn't do enough for us and everything we had hoped for or could have asked for. Spoleto is wonderful, the whole area is just as exciting and an add for your restaurants to recommend is Osteria Del Matto in Vicolo Del Mercato 3, the owner Filipou is brilliant, known all over the world, reasonably priced and great fun.
Thanks and kindest regards,
John & Jill M.
Dear In Italy,
Palazzo Dragoni was a great hotel. We loved Spoleto. The location of the hotel was fantasic and the staff were very friendly. I would not hesitate to recommend that hotel to any friends. Thanks for your help.

Dear In Italy,
Not as great a report on the Dragoni. It was certainly a beautiful place and the view out our window was to die for. However, again the lack of directions made finding the hotel very difficult. You sent directions to Spoleto, but nothing on the hotel once we were in Spoleto. And I think you should warn people about the street (and I use that loosely)it is on. Also, parking, although available, is difficult at best.
I also think the hotel needs some tender loving care. It is very ragged around the edges. And the lack of help was another problem. The lady that worked the breakfast room also did checkout. So if she was down doing checkout, you couldn't get coffee or anything else in the dining room. When we left, she was the only one there to help with the luggage. I didn't have the heart to ask her to help.
But the trip was great and I will use initaly again on our next trip.

Jessica-
Regarding the Palazzo Dragoni: Why? Treat that as a rhetorical "why?" -- that is, why if you are going to Spoleto would you stay anywhere else? The Palazzo Dragoni has simply the best location of any lodging in Spoleto. It is at the top of upper Spoleto, just below the Duomo. When we opened the door to our balcony, my wife's first words were: "I've died and gone to Italian heaven." The view is magnificent. To our left we looked down on the tiled rooftops of Spoleto, with the countryside of Umbria stretching out in the distance. Looking to the right and up the hill, one sees the Duomo and above that is the Rocco Maggiore (the ancient fort). At nighttime, the lights on the Duomo and Rocco simply added to the special magic of the place. The room itself was wonderful with a queen size canopied bed. The breakfast room was very pretty and offered further views. Roberto, the proprietor, made us feel very comfortable. Without question, when we return to Spoleto, we will stay at the Palazzo Dragoni. Please feel free to contact me if you have any other questions.

P.S. We also booked the private tour of the Vatican through In Italy Online. The tour was worth it. Our guide, Luciana, was excellent and very knowledgeable about the vast array of art in the Vatican as well as the many other tidbits she plied us w/ about it.
Dear In Italy,
Palazza Dragoni was absolutely fabulous. We were greeted like valued friends and departing was a sad day. The little book of Poems and stories given to us on our departure was a lovely personal touch. We travelled for 6 weeks and I must say this place leaves a special place in our hearts. We will be back! Our very best wishes and thanks to all the wonderful staff who made our 25th wedding anniversary so very special.
Best Regards,
Sue T.
Dear In Italy,
Palazzo Dragoni in Spoleto was unique and a true historic experience. In contrast to the newness and finesse of Villa di Piazzano, Dragoni is a treasure from the past -- understated elegance and graciousness - slightly worn but totally comfortable, interesting and charming. Our room and bath were, again, spacious with lovely antique furnishings. Our host Roberto was very gracious, refined and shy (he looked like the actor Anthony Hopkins but even more handsome, and we had a total crush on him). His mother, on the other hand, was very outgoing and a total delight. The location of the Palazzo is very special -- it's at the top of the hilltown of Spoleto in sight of the Duomo. You enter from a very narrow street lined with ancient buildings, but Dragoni is next to a park and the view from the park and the back of Dragoni is spectacular -- it drops down the side of the mountain covered with picturesque buildings with the beautiful Umbrian mountains in the distance. The duomo is one of the loveliest we saw -- not to mention the Roman bridge that spans the deep gorge between two mountains. Spoleto is also very convenient to Assisi, Perugia, Spello and so many other wonderful hilltowns -- we're so very glad we decided to do this detour from Tuscany. (Also, see if Palazzo Dragoni will send you one of the little parting gift booklets they gave us with the sweetest and collection of poems, quotes and excerpts on Love...a nice remembrance.)
And thank you, thank you, thank you InItaly -- especially Julie and Kristin. You provided wonderful service and everything was just as you promised -- No, Much Better!!!! We will return to your site, because we will go back to Bella Italia -- and we are recommending you to all our friends and acquaintances. Mille grazie!
Very warm regards,
Angela T. and Barbara M.
Dear In Italy,
The Palazzo Dragoni was a very nice place to stay. We would stay there again. We also discovered an excellent place to eat. The restaurant Tric Trac is in the Duomo square not far from the hotel. Pino is a superb host and the food is great.

Dear In Italy,
We were very happy with Palazzo Dragoni. It was well located for touring the city on foot. The cathedral bell was not a problem. The breakfast room was a treat, as was the breakfast fare. Help very attentive. Guests a mixed nationality crew, which was nice. Can't wait to return.
Ciao e grazie

Dear In Italy,
Palazzo Dragoni in Spoleto was also very nice although the city was rather a disappointment although the walk around the rocco to the bridge was worth it. It was a good location from which to explore the region.
