Palazzo Mannaioni

In the heart of Tuscany, equidistant from Florence, Siena and Pisa, is the charming medieval hilltown of Montaione. To reach it you drive through picture postcard valleys lined with vineyards and olive groves, punctuated by dark green cypress trees and cream-colored ancient farmhouses. The town itself is pristine and intimate, with cobblestoned lanes, sunny piazzas and picturesque shops. One of its most historic buildings is the 16 th-century Palazzo Mannaioni, which has recently opened after years of painstaking and extensive renovations. Today it has regained all its former splendor, sheltered on one side by high garden walls and on the other by a quiet side street.

You will relax the minute you step through the gate into the manicured courtyard, dominated by a lovely swimming pool with Jacuzzi. Inside there are several elegant public rooms, including a reading room, Internet point and a well-stocked cocktail lounge (open until 2 a.m.). The multi-lingual staff are young and eager to make your stay as enjoyable as they can.

An elevator whisks you upstairs to the 24 guest rooms and five junior suites. Each room has its own distinct flavor, but all are spacious, sunny and furnished with stylish antiques. The brand new deluxe quad room has a double bed, two single beds, and two bathrooms with shower. You'll find loads of four-star amenities such as air conditioning, direct-dial telephone (some with wireless Internet access), wall safe, satellite TV and mini-bar, alongside thoughtful extras like double sinks, heated towel racks, hair dryers, terrycloth robes and slippers, and even such high-tech wonders as universal bedside commands. The French doors and windows offer memorable views across the rooftops. Some of the junior suites have lofts with sleeping alcoves that offer great views of the countryside.

Because it is located right in town, Palazzo Mannaioni is easy to reach from anywhere in Tuscany. This mean it's a great base for day trips to San Gimignano, Siena, Volterra, Lucca and all the towns of Chianti. After an exciting days of touring, retreat to your own Tuscan stronghold, perhaps for a relaxing swim, a soothing cocktail or a memorable dinner in the hotel’s 4-star gourmet restaurant. And if you stay a few days and want a change of pace, don’t worry because there are other restaurants within walking distance, too.
