The Villa D'Este Golf Club is 1200 feet above sea level, in what may well be described as a Scottish landscape. Golfers will find play pleasant even in the middle of August. Designed in 1926 by Peter Gannon, its eighteen holes wind their way between chestnut groves, birch and pine woods. It is considered one of the most varied and difficult of the European "par 69" courses, and indeed, many important international tournaments are held at Villa d'Este each year. The 2-story club house has views over some of the holes and the lake of Montorfano.

Founded in 1971, La Pinetina Golf Club covers 158 acres of Tradate-Appiano Gentile parkland in wonderfully unspoilt countryside. In 1982 the entire complex was purchased by the members and considerable structural and technical modernization has been completed to bring the course to a high standard of perfection: bunkers were extended, greens re-laid, etc. Today, La Pinetina with its 18-hole par 71 course, is a top-level championship course, ideal for prestige tournaments. The hospitable club house has 11 guest rooms and facilities which include a swimming pool and tennis courts.

In 1907 a certain Mr. Wyatt, son and heir of a wealthy British subject, came as a tourist to the hills above Grandola and Uniti. He fell in love with the place and settled there with his wife. A perfect English gentleman cannot survive without his game of golf and Mr. Wyatt was no exception. He organized a makeshift 9-hole course which soon became a favourite meeting place for golf lovers in the area. In the fifties, the Golf Club was handed over to Italians. Antonio Roncoroni deserves special praise for the considerable improvements made to the club with skillful alterations which have preserved the typical British tradition and style. Mention should be made of the golfing library, second only to S. Andrews'.

Take the Milano-Como highway, exit at Lomazzo and follow signs for Carimate

Set in the green woods which have for centuries offered welcome shade to those fleeing the city on hot summer days, the Carimate Golf Club is situated on an estate surrounding a large medieval castle. Winding its way through rhododendron bushes and ancient oak trees, the 18-hole course presents no special difficulties for the average golfer; beginners will be relieved to hear there is only one stream. The club also has three tennis courts, two of which are indoor. On Saturdays and Sundays barbecues are held at the swimming pool.
