Hi Kristin,
Erwin and I got home Oct. 12 but have had two short trips and other things pending, so now maybe I can catch up here. Thank you again for the plans you made and for Patrick lining up our car. That was a great place for pick up as we just followed their directions and shot out of the city very easily. Thanks!!
We went to Umbria, one of our favorite regions, and stayed at Villa Zucchari, which was beautiful, and the views are great!! The pool is lovely and if it had been warmer would have taken a swim. We loved the little village of San Luca as we walked in it in the evening and met a dear old man and we had a good conversation, he in Italian and me with a little and rest smiles and hand waving! Went to Montefalco the next day and it was market day and what fun and guess who was there, smiling and coming towards us welcoming us to the market, the man we met in San Luca!! We always enjoy this village and again traveled all over and to Norcia which we loved. Sunday, the drive absolutely beautiful through the mountains and suddenly Norcia. Very friendly village, wonderful lentils and food with all the families coming for lunch. A great day. Back to San Luca and our lovely room and Pippo the dog. We ate each night there, the food was very good and we didn't have far to go to bed.
Then off to Villa Dragonetti. We had one miss turn but found it quickly. What an interesting place. Only 6 people there but service and dinner was very good. All the paintings of animals most interesting. We slept with a leopard!!
Thanks for your part and as long as we travel to Italy you will always be my source of information.
Fondly,
Janelle B.
Dear In Italy,
We are home from our fabulous vacation and very pleased with both Hotel Tramonto D'Oro and of course the Villa Zuccari in San Luca. It was memorable and absolutely beautiful with a wonderful restaurant. Again, very professional staff and service. They were extremely helpful in recommending a private driver which we kept for the entire week. We did spend a lot of money on drivers from the airport, from Praiano to Umbria, etc. but the lack of stress of not having to drive, trying to find our way and not speaking the language, made our trip truly wonderful. The hill towns and cathedrals were amazing. We will recommend your site to anyone we know traveling to Italy. In the future we are considering visiting the northern part of Italy and will contact you. Thank-you for all your help and recommendations.

Dear InItaly,
Highlights of our trip were many. The beautiful Villa Zuccari was by far our favorite hotel. The owners and staff were very welcoming and the rooms were first class. On our last day we enjoyed talking to the owners so much over breakfast that it was hard to tear ourselves away. We look forward to going back to Umbria which was so beautiful and this wonderful hotel.
In Florence we liked the Florentine Palazzo with the stunning views from the breakfast room and terraces. It was very well located and the garage service was terrific -prompt and friendly when you need your car. The staff was lovely and helpful when needed.
Our tour guide for the 4-hour Vatican tour was exceptionally knowledgeable and knew how to keep us in the quiet part of the human traffic flow. Friends recommended your site and this service to us and said that the price of a private tour was well worth it. We concur. I have never ever seen lines like there were at the Vatican anywhere. The guide service has a person go early to secure a front place in line so that when you arrive at opening time you are very quickly inside. If we had it to do over again we would have booked someone for the Roman ruins which are fascinating but completely unmarked. A guide would have really made this come to life.
We so enjoyed your site. You offer so much information and tips and some very funny reading about driving. We have to add that the worst thing about driving for us was finding roads that were sometime unmarked. In Rome we had a Mapquest printout that was perfect but some of the roads mentioned were impossible to find in traffic. They turned out to be so small as to be "Places" more than roads so that it is important to study your directions. You may find that you see the 3rd turn on your list and never turns 1 and 2. The key is to take your time. Believe me, they will go around you.
Thanks again for providing such a great site. We have already recommended you to our friends.
Jane
Dear Initaly,
Our trip was fantastic...the private 3 hour tour of the Vatican was worth every penny! Francesca was wonderful...extremely knowledgeable not only about the Vatican but about Italian history and culture in general... and she was great fun to be with. Without a guide my husband and I would have wandered through with our mouths agape unaware of the fascinating stories behind the art we were looking at. If we had been with a group tour I know it would have been difficult to hear the guide because of the crowds (we were there in July.) She picked us up at our hotel precisely on time. We never felt rushed..in fact the 3 hours stretched to closer to 4. Would highly recommend this tour to anyone planning a trip to the Vatican.
We also found/booked our stay at the Villa Zuccari in Montefalco in Umbria through your web site. It was fabulous. Beautiful and romantic...the rooms and property are even bigger/better in person than the photos on line indicate. This was a 20th wedding anniversary trip so the Villa Zuccari was perfect. The Zuccari family are warm, gracious and charming. The only negative were the driving directions to the Villa...it was a little "challenging" to find. Once there, it was a great location for day trips to Assisi, Deruta, etc. The beautiful pool was appreciated after a hot day of site seeing.
I also appreciated your quick e mail responses to planning questions I had before we left. I have recommended you guys to friends traveling to Italy.
Thank you,
Teresa G.
Dear In Italy,
We would like to share the wonderful experience that we had last weekend (3 nights, March 23 -26, 2006) at Villa Zuccari in Umbria. Our entire stay was simply perfect. We received a warm welcome from the staff and enjoyed superb attention throughout our stay from Danielle, the staff and the extended family. Our room was lovely - spacious, beautifully appointed with an extremely comfortable bed and well equipped bathroom...nothing was lacking! We enjoyed the ample breakfast of fresh fruits, yoghurts, cheeses, cereal, homemade cakes, juice and of course excellent coffee - and loved the beautiful garden breakfast room. We can also recommend dinner at Villa Zuccari, everything was beautifully presented and delicious. The grounds are well tended and there is plenty of space to sit and relax on the comfortable chairs on the terrace, and enjoy the panoramic view of the valley with the surrounding mountains. Villa Zuccari is a 15 min drive to the charming village of Montefalco which is well worth a visit, and within comfortable driving distance to many other sites in Umbria.

Villa Zuccari surpasses any other hotel we stayed in on a six-week trip through Italy this fall. The villa has spacious rooms, well appointed with enormous bathrooms (double sinks, stall shower, bathtub, bidet). The breakfast room is like an indoor garden and there are terraces everywhere. There is even a wonderful restaurant. All this is only 15 minutes from Spoleto!
We were recently visiting Italy, mostly in Tuscany and North. In our planning we were looking for someplace to stay near the end so we could visit Assisi, and have a reasonable ride to the airport in Rome. Villa Zuccari was a special place. It's as good as any four star hotel you've ever been in, at a very fair price. It is recently renovated, and everything is in great condition. The rooms were terrific. The beds were wonderful, the bathrooms were very modern and great, and the hospitality was outstanding. It is family run, and the family is very hands on and extremely friendly. It is located in a valley adjacent to a couple of very small villages, with very scenic views of the mountains. The grounds are spotless, with a beautiful infinity pool (the kind where you don't see the edge).
It was about 20 minutes south of Assisi, and it took us about 2 1/2 hours to drive to the Leonardo DeVinci airport in Fiumicino / Rome. It was a great ending to our trip. We (three couples travelling) would recommend it highly and would love to find our way back.
We just came back from a wonderful vacation in Italy. We (2 adults + 4 months baby) spent almost one week at hotel Villa Zuccari near Montefalco, Umbria. The hotel is new (opened in August 2005) and it was really great to be one of the first guests there. We felt that every detail was chosen with so much attention and love - the decoration of the rooms, the dining room, the corridors, the charming sitting room, the gardens, the swimming pool…. The owners with the staff at the reception, did everything they could, to make our stay unforgettable. It was the most pleasant stay we had in Italy (and we travel a lot). We highly recommend staying for a few nights if you are traveling in this area.
It was wonderful to see this beautiful pink building through the November mist. A warm and lovely rest from a busy life. Thank you for your warm hospitality!
