We had a wonderful time on our trip, and some of the links from your site were very helpful.
In particular, our stay at the Duomo Apartments was excellent, with its incredible location and the added bonus of having a helpful concierge at the desk during the day. The sound of the bells in the morning was unforgettable. Having Wifi was essential. But sending out the laundry was expensive! The line to climb up into the Duomo is shorter in the morning, before the basilica opens up. The view is an excellent introduction to Florence. It can be tough for the claustrophobic!
The church of San Miniato, across the river. A short cab ride or a great walk to a great view and beautiful peaceful space away from the huge crowds of the city piazzas. Gregorian chant every afternoon at around 5, and an amazing graveyard!
Reserve tickets for museums ahead of time. It's well worth the extra service fees, as you save precious time on the long lines. Use audio guides whenever possible to truly enhance your experience at the museums and historic sites, unless you have a live guide. Rent the speakers from the museums when available.
Restaurants recommended in the guides can be crowded as a result of the publicity. As you shop, ask local merchants where they like to eat; also In Italy includes their own unpublished and therefore not mass-oriented restaurants with every accommodation you book through the site. Italians don't eat breakfast!
Thanks for your help!
We would like to say once again how much we enjoy your web site! This was our third time using your site to plan our vacation. All of the hotels that we used through you have great character and charm, last but not least being our stay in Florence. All we can say is wow! The location at the Duomo Apartments was amazing! We would stay there again in a heartbeat!
Thanks for your services. The room we stayed in was incredible. In fact we had two rooms, a huge corner bedroom on the sixth floor overlooking the Duomo, and a dining room with kitchenette. The location could not be better, five minutes from any major museum. We were buying fruits, vegetables and cheese at Central Market, unbelievable taste, and only ten minutes from the hotel. The only negative to mention: air conditioning at 95 degree temperatures did not work too well, but we did find out this was the same in all other hotels in Italy.
Simon and Bella L.
We loved the Duomo apartments we rented. The rooms were charming, clean and the appliances were up to date to provide modern convenience. Christian, at the front desk, was an excellent guide. He showed us to the best restaurant we visited in Italy! We will refer our friends to your apartments in the future and will return when ever we can.
Thank you Julie,
We had a delightful time in Italy! Florence was our favorite city. Before our trip we had never heard of the Piazza del Duomo :) and were so thrilled to see that our apartment was on the square. We loved people watching and waking to a street performer who performed gentle violin music daily.
My only complaint: we were in the Michelangelo suite and the master bedroom was small and dull while the room with the twin beds overlooked the square and had the beautiful fresco on the ceiling. I was a little offended that the people shelling out the funds (my husband and I) did not get the best view and room. Needless to say our children loved their room with the painted ceiling, but I would not want to rent Michelangelo again. We tried for the penthouse but alas it was booked :).
We loved the space, and the concierge was helpful and friendly. The online assistance and booking was easy and thorough. Thanks for everything.
First of all, let me say, everything I booked through In Italy was absolutely flawless. I am thoroughly impressed with your recommendations and everything I booked through your company. We were in a group of 5 with my inlaws and I highly recommend the Apartments since they have two bedrooms and most have a pullout sofa. The Verona Winery was extremely well kept and manicured. Paolo was quick with whatever we needed. Highly recommend Il Busolo, Loretta made my son Dante a special pasta. A nice touch. In Florence, the Duomo Apartments were truly... The Duomo Apartments. We opened the windows and it felt like we could touch the Duomo, a magnificent structure. We did the half-day Florence The First Time walking tour and Elisabetta was great. Extremely knowledgeable and very vibrant. I highly recommend catching a cab to go to Piazzale Michelangelo, you get a panorama of Florence that is breathtaking. Suggest timing this around sunset. The cab was easy and there is a taxi stand at the piazza for the return. One note of caution for anyone in groups of 4 or more, with baggage, you may need to take two cabs to get to your destination. The cabs in Italy are small for the most part. We got lucky in Florence and (after waiting in queue) found one that could take us all. On the return to the train station we booked two cabs and they came together so we never got separated (good because I was the only one that spoke Italian). In Rome, we stayed at Campo de' Fiori Apartments. A very nice apartment (3rd floor) with lots of life in the neighborhood. We dined in Campo de Fiori (Magnolia restaurant has an American Breakfast). Not quite Cracker Barrel, but it was good to have some eggs after 2 weeks of Brioche (Flaky Pastries). A short walk away was Piazza Navona. Lots of restaurants there. We ate at one which I don't recall but was not pleased, food was ok and their credit card machine was down. Service was...well...Roman. Overall, it was a splendid trip. I would highly recommend your site to anyone traveling to Italy and I will definitely use it on my next trip.
Dear julie, jessica and the in italy staff,
We just arrived home from our vacation in italy. i would like to tell you that we had the most marvelous time in florence and one of the reasons is because cristiano and the duomo apartment was so fabulous. the location and the apartment itself was wonderful. cristiano is the nicest and most helpful concierge and i hope you can thank him once again for all his help. thank you to all for helping to make our vacation one that we will always remember!
We've just returned from Italy. I wanted to let the folks at "In Italy" know that everything associated with our lodgings in Florence and Rome went like clockwork. In fact, better than that. Cristiano was very attentive to our needs, made sure the carpark was taken care of, went to great pains to explain how everything worked and even made some dinner reservations for us after questioning where we were going to have dinner.
We will use In Italy again, all went so well.
Thank you for following up with us – our trip was wonderful! We loved Italy and the Duomo Apartments made Florence especially memorable. Cristiano was extremely helpful in providing directions, taking care of our car, etc. The location of the apartment (and especially the terrace facing the Duomo) is just unbelievable. It has a better view than the Duomo itself! We loved being so central to everything and just sitting out on that terrace every morning and at the end of each night. It was also nice to have the full kitchen and of course the more than adequate air conditioning as Florence was extremely hot when we were there. It's hard to find any hidden treasures in a town like Florence, but we particularly enjoyed dinner at La Giostra. We also found a small, local feeling restaurant called Il Che' c'e c'e' that we had a great time at (along with the great food). We would highly recommend these apartments to anyone traveling to Florence. Thank you for making our trip so great - we had never rented an apartment out of the country before, and it was so smooth we will certainly do it again.
It has been almost a week since we returned from beautiful Florence, but we still have visions of the magnificent Duomo cathedral that we could practically touch from our balcony at the Duomo penthouse apartment. Our experience in Florence would not have been the same if we stayed somewhere else. We spent many enjoyable evenings watching the sunset over Florence from our west-facing balcony and then greeting the sun the following morning on the east balcony.
By the time we arrived in Florence, we had been in Europe for several weeks. It was such a relief to find a washing machine and a fully equipped kitchen in the apartment. The only downside was the situation with the showers in both bathrooms as a lot of water would always remain on the bathroom floor no matter what we tried. Also, one time we found a lot of water in the living room after a heavy shower. But the local management seemed to be aware of these problems and they were working on them.
If we are ever in Florence again and we certainly hope we will, Duomo Apartments is the only place we will consider for a return visit. In Italy Online, you made our stay really special and we thank you for finding and making this location available to us.
The Valerio Family
We had a great trip and especially liked Florence. We didn't expect the trains to cost so much and would rent a car if we had it to do over again (we traveled around from Vicenza and Verona, to Venice, Florence, Orvieto, Rome, and then up to Bolzano... flying in/out of Munich). Had we planned earlier we would have been better able to take advantage of having four adults by renting apartments rather than hotel rooms. We did in Florence and loved the Duomo Apartments Penthouse!
Staying at the Duomo Apts. in Florence was the most wonderful experience. The location was superb--we were able to walk everywhere easily, including the Bus and Train Stations. The accommodations provided were ideal for our comfort and privacy--the two bedroom apt. had two bathrooms which was ideal for my daughters and myself. The size of the shower, however, took some getting used to!!
Due to a missed flight from Paris, and the unwillingness of the Air France personnel to assist us in a timely fashion, we were very late getting into Florence (after 8:00 pm). The gentleman at the desk was very cordial about waiting until our arrival so we could get our keys. I would certainly recommend your services and the Duomo Apartments to everyone.
Our trip to Italy was outstanding. We loved the penthouse Duomo apartment. What an incredible view and location! The only negative we had was that the beds and pillows were exceptionally hard and uncomfortable. With new pillows and mattress toppers I would say we'd return in an instant!
Thanks so much,
Once again I was really happy with my stay at Duomo Apartments. I can't stop talking about how amazing your accommodations are. Thanks, once again and I look forward to staying there soon.
Very happy customer.
It was a lovely trip. The apartment was in a great location, spacious. I would recommend the spot. They have a regular front desk, that is something that your clients should know, no need to call. A couple of things that would be helpful would be more than one set of towels a person for 4 days, and soap and sponge to clean up in the kitchen. A comment that might help you guys rent even more places would be a service for people that will be arriving late into a city. We stayed in a hotel in Rome, because of our late arrival. If we could have rented I would have been happier, and you would have made a commission.
Next trip I will contact you again.
We had a great Italian vacation celebrating our 25th anniversary, and all of our reservations thru Initaly went very smoothly.
The Duomo Apartments are in a great location. We overlooked the Duomo and Baptistry from our window. You couldn't get any closer. Our apartment, the Vasari, was clean and the beds comfortable; however, one of the 2 showers never got hot water and that bathroom had a musty odor to it. The air conditioning, which you really depend on in late June, didn't cool the rooms very well. If you're driving and make a parking reservation, the garage drops off and picks the car up right in front of the building, which is well worth the 25 euros/day parking rate.

Thank you so much for all the help you gave me with the planning of this most wonderful trip. We had a great time. All of our apartments were in perfect locations and the people could not have been nicer. I want to especially thank you for facilitating our late arrival in Florence. It worked out beautifully with my daughter going over early. The only suggestion I would make is to give instructions on how to get to a grocery store nearby, and maybe a place to do laundry. All of our tours were fabulous with knowledgeable friendly guides. These are especially worth the money when I hear about people who had to wait in 2-3 hour lines to get into the museum that we just walked into with our English-speaking guide. I have recommended your services to many people, as we would not have had such a great time without your help. Everything worked exactly as is was supposed to.
Thank you again for all your help,
The Duomo Apartments were fabulous! We had the Masaccio, and it couldn't have been better. It was quiet, central, and gorgeous. My 80 year old Dad and 8 year old daughter enjoyed the spacious air-conditioned comforts of the apartment in the afternoon while my mother and I relentlessly pounded the pavement seeking (and finding) amazing art all day long. We often cooked in at night enjoying the view of the Duomo (which you could almost touch) and piazza below. The Lorenzo Market, a block or so away, provided us with ample fresh produce, seafood, bread and pasta to cook divine meals. A bit of planning was in order as they close at 2:00, and are closed on Sundays. All in all, it surpassed our expectations, and we were thrilled with our Florence experience. As always, thanks for your help planning our enchanted stay in enchanted Italy!
The trip was great. Everything exceeded our expectations. We had a great time in Florence, the Duomo Apartments were very nice. We were pleasantly surprised at the accommodation and the help we received from the front desk. The front desk was manned from 11 AM to 7 PM. They were extremely helpful. They also recommended a great restaurant where we ate and drank every night for a price fixed $18 Euros a night. In addition, the restaurant had a singer that was out of this world entertaining. The accommodations were safe, clean and located right above the Duomo. I can see how it would be noisy in the summer, however, in our case we slept with the windows closed. We were in an excellent location to all sites to visit. No taxis were required, just good old walking.
I woke up on Sunday to loud announcements in the Duomo square that happened to be announcements for a 9:30AM 10 K run. So being a runner, I paid my $5 Euros, jumped in the pack and followed the group all over Florence. They even gave me a shirt. Runners can have fun in Florence. I was told that the week before was a half marathon.
We had a great trip. I would like to thank you for everything. The trip was smooth, no problems with any vouchers or confirmations, and our hosts were exceptional. I would not be hesitant in recommending the same trip and the same accommodations.
It was truly amazing. The view from the room was spectacular. Unfortunately, well perhaps fortune I didn't take any pictures from the room therefore I'm going to have to return soon. I really don't have any complaints. I do have to add though that Alberto couldn't have been any better; sweet and very informative.
The restaurant I always recommend to everyone is Aqua al 2. Delicious!! Thank you for everything & most definitely I'll contact you for my future travels. I also own a travel agency & will be sending our Italian travelers your way.
We loved the apartment! All that we expected and more. The only thing I thought could be improved was the doorman. He could have been more helpful and friendly. He has a great city to share so I thought he could have been more enthusiastic about it.
Thanks for asking about our trip and the Duomo Apartments. The trip was wonderful - Italy, and especially Florence, are always the best. Regarding the apartment, the location is of course fantastic, and the reception staff were very nice and professional, overall no problems. We stayed in the Leonardo apartment. Local suggestions: Yellow Bar for outstanding pizza (very popular, be prepared to wait) and Il Caminetta nearby on Via della Studio provided an excellent dinner and atmosphere.
Thanks for the welcome home. The apartments were in an incredible location. Very convenient. What a view! The apartment was beautifully decorated and the air conditioning worked very well. We enjoyed our stay and we are recommending it to our friends and neighbors.
For the whole trip, the best accommodation was at Florence's Duomo Apartments. Rated "A" by all four of us in the family. It's situated in a convenient location with the comfort that was within. We loved the apartment. The apartment was very spacious and comfortable. We were awakened not by the bells at the Duomo but by the streetcars that washed the streets as early as 5 a.m. It was major washing and the noise was unbearable. Otherwise, the other nights were fine. Small and unique elevator. It's something we would remember. We had a wonderful time in Florence. The shopping was great! We would love to live in the Duomo apartments again in the future. The gentlemen at the desk were courteous and very friendly.
Thanks for your greetings and thanks to initaly.com for having such a wonderful site to make travel arrangements.
The Duomo Apartments was also a nice surprise. We had the penthouse apartment, which can accommodate up to seven, we were six, and loved it. You could almost touch the tiles of the Duomo right across the street. The service was very good. Management gave us a welcoming letter that stating the apartment would be cleaned just once a week, and that the bedsheets would be changed the same, and that if we wanted an extra change it would have to be requested. Well, to our surprise our apartment was cleaned everyday and the sheets changed everyday as well. I don't know if this was just a coincidence or not, but it was a nice surprise. On the other hand, we stayed at a four star hotel during our trip that did not change the sheets in our entire three day stay. The location is also wonderful, again highly recommended and would stay there again.
I am very impressed with your service and look forward to making future arrangements with you guys. Keep up the good work.
Thanks so much.
My family of 5 (parents, 15,13 and 10 year old) just returned from our 2 weeks in Italy. The help we received from you at In Italy was outstanding, the best of any company we worked with. We stayed in the penthouse in The Duomo in Florence. This is truly a find. We were so close to the Duomo we felt we could touch it. Since the view from the balcony must be the best in the city we elected to eat all our meals in the apartment sitting on the balcony that overlooked the duomo and baptistry. Reservations are a must in July for the museums and saved us lots of time. The outside markets and leather shops right down the street from the apartment are fun to walk through. You need to barter. Now that I am home I wish I had bought more purses there. My daughters' favorite memory is buying food at the inside food market only 5 minutes from the apartment. Unfortunately, I didn't find it until open our last day there. It closes at about 1:30 so you need to get there early. I advise everyone to eat as much gelato as possible in Florence and Rome. The gelato in the rest of the country wasn't as special.
Thanks for all your help.
Our trip was most pleasant, as was the apartment, with the following exceptions:
1. We rent almost exclusively apartments when we travel, and I have found, particularly in this price range, that basic kitchen supplies are provided: salt and pepper, sugar, (even tea bags and one day's coffee) dish washing liquid and sponge or wash rag. Not the case here. I had to go looking for housekeeping to get soap for the dishwasher.
2. The front desk staff is most pleasant, but gave us limited information. When we asked for an internet connection place, they sent us blocks away, when there is one, much more affordable, at the bookstore two doors from the building. Same for a supermarket. The closest was a good 10 minutes walk. There is an indoor market, featuring stalls for meat, fruit & veggies and staples of all kinds, only 2 minutes away at San Lorenzo. I wish I'd known I had the option at least.
3. On the last night we were there (7/9), a construction company started erecting metal scaffolding at 11 p.m., right below our window. We were kept awake until 2 a.m., at which time we moved onto the sofa bed in the living room, which was away from the street. If the apartment management was aware of the work being planned, they should have notified all tenants. If we'd started on the sofa bed, we might have gotten a decent night's sleep.
The apartments are clean, well maintained and comfortable. And, not a small item in european buildings, the air conditioning works very well. I would rent there again, I think, but not on the 6th floor -- I'd like bigger windows.
We had a great trip. I could write a lot about the positives of the Duomo Apartments and the Villa Riviera Toscana. But two details that would have been helpful to us. Some Duomo Apartments have problems with the electrical power short circuiting. There is a switch room at on the first floor but we didn't learn about how to solve the problem until the second night when we ran into another apartment dweller who was resetting the power for his apartment. So we had to go to bed in the dark the first night. Also we didn't have any dish powder to wash dishes until the third day. Christian and Monica and staff went out of their way to assist/serve us. Their kindness made our stay in Italy that much more delightful!
Our Italy experience was everything I had hoped for. Every place we went and everything we saw was exceptional. I will have more details for you soon; like the name of the restaurants in Naples and Florence, our two-day motorcycle experience site seeing on Amalfi Coast, being taken advantage of in the Naples train station, etc.
For now I must tell you that no place touched me so deeply as Florence. The Duomo Apartment was beyond description and Cristiano was so kind and helpful (I intend to send him a thank you card). I kept everything for a scrapbook so I can send more details on the trip soon.
Thank you for all of your help in planning our trip. I will be returning to Italy!
