Back to Positano Cliffside

Hi Kristin,

As you are aware my family and i (6 adults and 3 children - a three year old and two 10mth olds) stayed in the Positano Cliffside villa for a week in May 2008. In Italy provided all the necessary details prior to our departure.

The Villa is situated in one of the most spectacular settings i have seen, with wonderful uninterrupted views of the sea and mountains. The villa itself (we took both the main apartment and the guest house) is very spacious and clean, the photographs on the website do not do it justice.

The steps down to the Villa did not cause us any problems, even with the kids.

Maria, Franco and Vito were wonderful hosts. Maria was very sweet - providing us with eggs for breakfast and ice-cream by the pool.

All the restaurants we ate in were excellent .... e.g. La Cambuso, il Saraceno d'oro, Buca di Bacco. One that stands out in terms of quality and service was La Tagliata, set in the mountains up over Positano - they provided a free taxi service to and from the restaurant - whilst they have no menu, the selection of food and the quality of food was superb.

The kids (and the adults) loved the swimming pool and the pool table

Positano is very central to visit Capri, Amalfi, Pompeii, Sorrento etc..

I would highly highly recommend In Italy, Positano and Positano Cliffside

I look forward to returning to Positano soon (this was my third time in Positano!)

Dear Jessica,

We were a party of six. We booked our accommodations through In Italy Online.

In Rome, we stayed at Rome Garden Apartment. In Positano we stayed at Positano Cliffside.

These accommodations exceeded our expectations. We are completely satisfied with the services provided by In Italy Online. All information passed to us before the trip was extremely accurate. In Italy Online was thoroughly accommodating to our needs and readily responded to all of our inquiries before our departure.  Most of all I found In Italy Online to be totally reliable. I could not find one single thing to complain about their support.

Positano Cliffside is highly recommended. Mrs. Fusco, owner, was extremely responsive to all our needs. She carried in firewood and made a fire in the fireplace several nights. She has three sons who also were ready to help. On several occasions they took us to stores or downtown. As stated in the literature, there are 93 steps to the Villa. Mrs. Fusco called for a porter to carry the bags down the stairs. We had about 15 pieces of luggage. Cost us 20 Euro. We called for our own Porter to haul the bags up the steep steps—70 Euro.

I heartily agree with all the recommendations in your Guest Reviews about restaurants in Positano.  But I would single out Il Ritrovo. This is must for anyone staying in Positano. The atmosphere, the chef, and the staff are unequalled. They provided a very relaxing and warm environment which gave us a very pleasant and enjoyable dining experience. It’s the best restaurant that we encountered in Italy.

The local bus is within easy walking distance. Cost is 1 Euro to go downtown Positano. Also the SITA bus is nearby for trips to Sorrento or Amalfi. I would recommend a trip to Ravello and take in the evening concert.

Overall, as to transportation, with six in our party, we found it best to hire a van with a driver. We drove to two ancestral towns about 100 miles from Rome —one was on the Adriatic - and then used the same driver and van to drive to and from Positano. Cost was very reasonable.

Sincerely,
Robert G. M.

Dear Kirill,

I just wanted to let all of you all know that I am so pleased that I found your web site and the Positano Cliffside Villa. It was a vacation of a life time!!  The Villa was truly fantastic!!!  It was beyond our expectations!!

The furniture and decor in the Villa transported us back in time. Maria, Vito and Franco went out of their way to accommodate us with all our needs. They truly were wonderful hosts. There were four of us and the villa was so large, clean and so comfortable. You could eat off the floors it was so clean!!! The kitchen was fully equipped with every thing we needed. We truly enjoyed the kittens that visited us each day and to watch the two sheep below, one being named Clementine. We would wake up to the sound of her little bell around her neck each morning along with the birds chirping and singing.

I read the comments on your site from other people who stayed at the villa. One comment was that there was no heat in the bathrooms or halls. The villa now have heaters in the bathrooms and halls. Also, Vito turned on the hot water heater in the kitchen in order that we could have hot water it to wash dishes. We did not need heat as the weather was beautiful (our stay was from October 7th to the 14th). The view was spectacular, and Positano is undescribable!!  This was a good time of the year to be there as the traffic was not bad. We rented a car and had no trouble getting around. But...watch out for the scooters and cars passing you on the curves!!  They are crazy drivers, but we did OK.

We loved the restaurant where Vito worked and the food and service were excellent. We ate there several times and recommend it highly!! The Fusco family is well know in Positano and we only had to mention their name at restaurants, parking garages, etc. and were treated extra special.

We are not able to bring the villa back home, but we will always have our memories of the beautiful, lovely Positano Cliffside Villa and the kind and loving family who took such good care of us.

Best Regards,
Emilio (Emil), Dolores, Savino (Frank), and Madeline M.

Dear Julie,

Positano Cliffside was picturesque and extremely comfortable.  The property's owners live on the lower level...  our party fell in love with the entire family...these folks are excellent hosts and we couldn't have asked for more.  The villa is just on the outskirts of the city so, if you need a respite from the large numbers of people Positano attracts, I highly recommend this special villa.  I have never seen more beautiful views...

No matter if you've been to Italy several times before or if this is your first visit, I highly suggest using the tour services offered on initaly.com.  Our party did the Coliseum and Roman Forum tour with Katherine... she was very professional and knowledgable.  With her guidance, the old stones and structures came alive and everyone in the group (ages 10 through 65) enjoyed learning some history... her stories through San Clemente cathedral were especially appealing.  Likewise, the 3-hour boat tour with Helena in Venice was a highlight for everyone.  Please do not make the mistake of spending time in Venice and not seeing Murano and Burano.  Hiring Helena to take you to these places is well worth your money.  Elisabetta provided superb guidance for us in the Florentine museums during our 3-hour tour of the Accademia and Uffizi Gallery.  Everyone enjoyed her animated gestures and obvious love of art - her enthusiasm was contagious.  The same could be said for guide during our 3-hour walking tour of Naples (regretfully his name escapes me...).  Without his passion and love of Naples, we would have missed a large part of what Naples is and was...It was especially useful to book all of the above tours if you are traveling with older or younger family members... the guides will help your party avoid the long lines and other inconveniences of traveling to these fantastic cities.

Lastly, I want to mention everyone's favorite guide, Maurizio.  We spent approximately 8 hours seeing the Florentine countryside with this kind gentleman.  Our trip to Italy this time revolved around the cities but I wanted my mother to spend a day in the Tuscan countryside so we booked a Day in the Chianti. We will always remember our day in Tuscany and our guide with the great sense of humor.  Bravo Maurizio!

Thank you to all the guides... without you our trip would not have been as enjoyable!  And now my niece's comments about the villa...

Hello. My name is Anne-Marie and I am 10 years old. I am from America. I am the youngest of the 6 ladies that came with me (they are all family). We stayed at 2 properties from this website. Positano Cliffside: I LOVED THAT PLACE. I liked the apartment because of how nice and clean it was. Not a bit of dust anywhere. The rooms were very nice. The kitchen is very big. The balcony is very nice, and in the evening when you are eating dinner on the balcony it is very romantic! When it is a hot day and you need to cool down, go up to the pool! The pool is a good size for a group of people to fit in. It even has jets that massage your feet, back, whatever part of your body you want to get massaged! That is very nice.

Well that is all I have to tell you about the apartments.  If you are planning a trip to go with family, friends, or just a couple that are on their honeymoon, these places I really recommend!

Michelle and Anne-Marie C.

Hello,

We had a very nice time in Italy. It was colder than expected (even the locals say that), but we made the most of the trip. The apartment was in an incredible spot - what a view! Again it was quite cold inside, but Vito did his very best to keep us warm - building us fires and supplying plenty of firewood throughout our visit. I would suggest you add coffee filters (size 4) to your list of what to bring. It was very difficult to find them in Italy.

As for additional tips / things we enjoyed:
Il Ritrovo - for dinner up the mountain from Positano
La Cambusa - where Vito works, great service and food
Ravello - such a beautiful spot

And of course Pompeii and Naples.

Many thanks for all your assistance with setting up our trip. Overall we really enjoyed our time and would use your services again.

Kind regards,
Renee E.

Dear Kristin,

Everything was fantastic! Maria gave us eggs and lemoncello and we could tell we were welcomed. It was helpful on our last day to use positano porters to ferry our luggage down to the boat dock. We came in by bus, so we didn't need them coming. Directions by bus were a bit difficult- maybe your final instructions could be more clear in describing bus from Salerno to Amalfi where you change buses to Positano ( Sorrento). Then to get off past the town at the Hotel LeAgave. Also, we loved the walk to town and were able to eat everything because we tried to walk the stairs, however, for some people, the physical demands may be very difficult, so being clear in the villa description may be helpful.

We have referred friends to your website because you have a great company.

Lisa D.

Hello Jessica:

We had the most fabulous trip and it surpassed my expectations.  I have never seen such beautiful landscape before.  At the Positano Cliffside, you have mountains and a beautiful view of the sea and the villa was much bigger and more beautiful that the photos on the web led us to believe.  Maria, Franco and Vito were wonderful hosts and we had a lot of fun with them!  Positano was a great town to stay in and very easy to reach Pompeii, Pasteum, Capri etc. If I haven't made it clear yet, this has been my most favorite holiday ever, thank-you for your help.

The only improvement I could suggest would be that Andrea, spend 5 minutes teaching guests how to use the washing machine and other appliances, as our group of 6 seemed to be very challenged and Maria does not speak English.

Thanks again Jessica, I look forward to dealing with In Italy again as I definitely will be back.

Heidi W.

Dear Jessica,

The villa was great! Maria is a sweet lady and her son Vito was a huge help. The views are stunning and the isolation is wonderful. For light sleepers, the buses honking as they approach corners early in the morning was a surprise. Overall, I would go back again in a minute. Positano was as I remembered it from 10 years ago.

Regards,
Lou D.

Dear Kristin,

Positano Cliffside was truly a delight. We were very close to town, and the 93 steps kept us in shape (for all the great eating).

Besides the view, one of the best things about this property was Maria (the owner). She went out of her way to accommodate us, and brought us fresh flowers and herbs from her garden, eggs from her chickens, and homemade sausage and liquors to try. Her sons gave us directions, rides to town (for the ferry) and made special arrangements at the restaurant where they work (La Cambusa & Villa Franca). By the looks of the houseguest book, they extend these courtesies to every group of guests. They are just naturally good hosts.

Also, when you say this place sleeps 6-you really mean 6. It actually has 3 full bedrooms, with queen-size beds. The baths are two full baths, and the linens are very nice. The kitchen is pretty well equipped, and there is even a formal dining area. Maria and her sons have just finished the one-bedroom unit, and it has a huge patio.

My parents are still there, for another 4 weeks, touring. Thank you for having such a great website, and managing it well. You were instrumental in making this truly a trip of a lifetime!

Ravel H.

Dear David,

Italy was just awesome and we loved out villa. Maria and Vito were so accommodating and Antoinette was too. We ate at Vito's restaurant a couple of times and just loved it. I am sure you have heard about it before.

The only tip I would give is if your customers are flying from Naples, they should allow extra time for check in and security. It is really disorganized, particularly with the intra-Italy flights. However, they hold them due to this delay.

I would go back in a minute and stay at the same villa because we really did enjoy it.

Thanks and feel free to call me if you have any questions.

Liz M.

Hi Jessica,

It is good to be home. it was a long journey. The Positano Cliffside was beautiful- with amazing views. We really got a good workout on a daily basis manuevering all the steps. Since this was our first time traveling to Europe, we did encounter some surprises. For example some of the unexpected surprises that we encountered at the apartment was the lack of heat in the hallway, the kitchen and the bathrooms. There was no way of receiving heat in those areas. Also if you had too many electrical things going it would blow a fuse. Also we never had hot water in the kitchen to wash our dishes. The owners were aware and I guess this is just the way it is there. They do not have the natural resources that we have in the States. The owners were amazing and very accommodating. For example Peter would bring us fresh eggs, and samples of various liqueurs and umbrellas when it was raining.

One of the great finds in the area was a restaurant that we ate at quite frequently, it is located downtown Positano on the water and is called Chez Black. They had an extensive menu the prices were reasonable (8-10 Euros a plate), and the staff extremely friendly.

Some of the things that I would like first time visitors to know are: all stores close down between 1 and 5, and then reopen to about 7. It is difficult to find paper products, good idea to bring from home. Also the earliest you can eat dinner out is at 630p. Cocktails are available before then.

Sincerley,
Michele P.
