This lovely air-conditioned property is located below the main coastal road in a very quiet position only five minutes' drive from the center of Positano. Perched on a cliff overlooking the sea, the coastline and the islands of I Galli, it is surrounded by pine trees, olive groves, citrus and fruit stands. The comfortably furnished interior opens onto a beautiful 400-square-foot terrace that runs the length of the house. The very friendly owners live discreetly on a lower level, always ready to help but never intrusive. If you like, they will be happy to provide fresh eggs from their chickens. And be sure to meet their goat Clementina and her daughter Valentina, born on Valentine's Day!

You don't need a car to stay here, because the bus stops very nearby, but if you do have one, there is free streetside parking, and the 1290-square-foot main apartment is 93 steps down from there. You enter through a hallway. To the right is a large, fully-equipped eat-in kitchen with a full fridge/freezer, oven and cooktop, American coffeemaker and doors that open onto the vine-shaded terrace. You will find the cupboards filled with lots of dishes, cookware and staples, and the fridge is stocked with drinks and foods so that you don't need to go shopping the minute you arrive (you pay only for what you consume). There are also two spacious double bedrooms with modern furniture and doors onto the same terrace. To the left of the hallway are two bathrooms, one with bathtub and washing machine, and one with a stall shower and bathtub. There is also a third double bedroom, with windows overlooking the sea. At the far end of the hall is a sunny living/dining room with comfortable sofas, dining table, TV, CD player, fireplace, and doors opening onto the terrace, which has plenty of sun loungers, a swing, an outdoor shower, and a table and chairs under an umbrella, as well as a barbecue.

If there are eight people in your party -- or only two -- you can also rent the guesthouse. It is 80 steps down from the street and shares the terrace with the main apartment. The guesthouse has ceramic tile floors throughout, a living/dining room with loveseat, CD player and dining table; a separate kitchen with a cook top, toaster oven and fridge/freezer; a bathroom with stall shower and washing machine; and an air-conditioned bedroom with a big closet and chest of drawers, sea views from the queen-sized bed, and French doors that open onto a private terrace with wrought-iron furniture and even more breathtaking views of the coast and the islands. Just next door is the 21x9-foot swimming pool, shared with the Main Apartment (open from the end of April to mid-October).

The buses on the Amalfi Coast are small and infrequent so they are often crowded and you may have to wait a while for one to come along with enough room to get on. If this is not a problem for you, then a short bus ride, which runs every hour, will take you to Positano town center (2.5 km), where you will find all shops, restaurants and beaches, as well as ferries and hydrofoils that ply daily between Positano and Capri (50 minutes), Ischia (75 minutes), Naples (50 minutes), Amalfi (30 minutes) and Salerno (30 minutes). Sorrento (further facilities, hospital, train to Naples) is 22 km, Amalfi 15 km, Ravello 25 km, Pompei 55 km. By bus, Amalfi is 40 minutes away, Sorrento 45 minutes.
