Piazza Navona Rooftops

The owner of this spacious apartment is an art historian and restoration artist, and it shows. There is a certain European flair that can only be achieved through a perfect balance of knowledge, taste and personal whimsy. Add to this the gorgeous views of Renaissance palazzi, ivy-covered façades and classic belltowers and well, you have a quintessential Roman abode. The location is high above a neighborhood filled with hopelessly picturesque lanes and charming ancient buildings. The crumbling paint on ancient façades and ramshackle street shrines elicits no criticism, but rather a longing to take more photographs. And just let a little kitten stray onto a balcony to sun itself between the potted geraniums, and you are liable to get a pedestrian traffic jam on the cobblestones below. Whether you wander through this tiny enclave by day or by night, it feels like you are strolling along the hallways of a cozy private residence, yet turn one corner and you are suddenly standing in what many consider to be the most breathtaking square in all of Europe: Piazza Navona. Want to feel as though you’ve stepped through the Looking Glass into 16th-century Rome? Then we suggest you make this sun-filled apartment your casa romana.

On the fourth floor of an ancient building with a modern elevator, this apartment feels like home the minute you step into the inviting foyer. Beyond that is the large living room, which has a double sleep sofa and a futon that can also serve as a bed for a child. Enjoy an aperitif as the sun sets outside the two big windows. Through an archway is the dining room: both these rooms have the original wood casement ceilings that add character whether you're having your morning croissant or a candlelit dinner. Next to the dining room is the galley kitchen, equipped with a full fridge/freezer, oven, range with five burners, microwave oven, kettle, toaster, and washer/drier. Around the corner, a hallway leads to a large closet, a bathroom with stall shower, a bedroom with two large windows, king size bed and dresser. Next door is the second bedroom, which also has a king sized bed, a desk, a dresser and wardrobe, as well as an en suite bathroom with stall shower. Both bedrooms have ceiling fans and overlook a quiet, picturesque courtyard, making this a wonderful retreat from the hustle and bustle of Rome.
