| Casa Romana |
|
Of course any apartment you rent in Rome will be your casa romana, but we've seen few that come closer to feeling like a real home. The owner, a genial young businessman, has left his books, his oil paintings and prints, his mementos here and there, and this creates a cozy upper-class atmosphere despite the spaciousness of the rooms. There are plenty of couches and chairs, so you can sit around and gab or just read a book. The kitchen has enough gadgets to make a real meal. Everything seems to be inviting you to make yourselves at home the minute you arrive.
On the third floor of a well-kept elevator building that's about 100 years old, Casa Romana is located right in the heart of the city, just a 5-minute walk from Piazza Barberini, where you'll find loads of buses and the subway to St. Peter's. The Spanish Steps is about a 10-minute walk from there - and be sure to stop to throw your coins into Trevi Fountain along the way!
All the rooms in this 1600-square-foot apartment except the bathroom and kitchen have burnished parquet floors. The foyer opens onto a large, sunny double living room and has two couches, a card table, chairs, a big TV and telephone, as well as a dining nook with table and chairs. Next door is a children's room where you'll find a single bed, plus a loft bed built over a desk with a computer you may use. High-speed Internet access is also available for 50 Euro/stay.
The big eat-in kitchen is on the rear of the house. It has terracotta floors, a table, and modern appliances, including a range with four burners, an oven, a big fridge, blender, dishwasher, slicer, microwave, coffee machine, and iron and board. Next door, facing onto a quiet inner courtyard, is the master bedroom, featuring a king-sized bed, long table, wardrobe, large TV and stereo. The new tiled bathroom has a separate bathtub and double shower, plus a washing machine.
