Rome's Old Jewish Ghetto is a fascinating place. One of the most historical neighborhoods in town, it is nestled between the Tiber River and the Pantheon and comprises a warren of narrow streets lined with patrician palazzos and characteristic food shops. Some of Rome's best restaurants are here, as well as trendy enotecas, hole-in-the-wall bakeries serving luscious cakes and sweets, and a bona fide supermarket cleverly hidden right downstairs. You can easily walk to almost everything from here, including the Forum and St. Peter's.
This apartment is on the second floor of one of those palazzos. When you step off the elevator you'll enter into a welcoming foyer, off of which is the large, sunny modern kitchen. Nothing is missing here: full freezer/fridge, oven, gas cooktop, toaster oven, kettle, dishwasher, washing machine, loads of dishes and cooking utensils, a big butcher block island, and a bench where four people can enjoy breakfast or a snack. In fine Italian fashion, this room truly is the heart of the home.
But there is lots more to this apartment! The rooms are laid out in a circle, so that from the kitchen you continue on into the hall, which boasts a big closet. Then it's on to the twin bedroom, which overlooks the courtyard, and a second bedroom featuring a queen bed, single futon and large dresser. The master bedroom has a queen bed, dresser and walk-in closet, plus an en suite bathroom with bathtub and splash screen. Continuing along the hall you come to the second bathroom, which has a stall shower. Last is the big living room, furnished with two armchairs, a sofa, satellite TV, telephone, and Internet access. This room opens onto the kitchen as well as onto the separate dining room, where you'll enjoy meals at a big table for eight. Thanks to the unusually thick walls and the cross breezes provided by windows on both sides of the apartment, it is rarely hot, but there are air conditioning units for the two double bedrooms, and the other rooms have ceiling fans.
