Trastevere, an ancient enclave tucked in the generous crook of the Tiber River, is known throughout the world as the trendiest part of Rome, but that's not the way Romans think of it. They consider this to be the city's the most authentically Roman neighborhood -- and this apartment is at the very epicenter of the most authentic nook of this quintessentially Roman district. Just around the corner is Piazza San Cosimato, where 7th-generation Roman housewives shop at the outdoor market which far surpasses Campo de' Fiori. Now, in Italy, where there's an outdoor market there are dozens of grocery stores, bakeries, butcher shops (one of which is actually on the ground floor of this apartment building!); and where there are food shops, you are likely to find the best places to eat too. Not the "trendy" Trastevere places you'll read about in guidebooks, but the authentic places where the locals have been eating since Grandma and the chef went to elementary school together. If you consider yourself to be a foodie, the four-block radius around this apartment building will have you mesmerized -- and you are bound to gain a host of new friends as you make the rounds for your daily shopping each morning.

Whether you're a gourmand or a pizza-lover, you'll be thrilled to see the ultra-modern cook's kitchen that awaits you when you step out of the elevator on the top floor of this 150-year-old building. The silence, sunlight and serenity of this air-conditioned home contrast sharply with all the activity on the street far below. Gliding on waxed parquet floors, you'll cross the foyer and step into the spacious living room, furnished with a sleek modern couch, flat-screen satellite TV, armchairs and dining table for six. Throughout the house, the main colors are white, burnt umber and taupe, enlivened with big splashes of color from the owner's rich collection of Pop Art posters and objects. The minimalist décor allows you to appreciate the spotless, well-kept rooms, starting with the kitchen, which is next to the dining area. Equipped with a fridge, gas range, oven, dishwasher, coffee machine, toaster and kettle, it offers plenty of room for more than one cook.  Directly above the kitchen is a loft, furnished with a desk and a single sleep sofa. Before you head to the sleeping area on the rear of the building, treat yourself to a look at the stunning view from the two big living room windows: including the Presidential Palace, the Spanish Steps bell towers, and half a dozen church domes, it is enough to impress even the most blasé trasteverino.

Just as you'd want, the bedrooms face away from the street. Each of these large rooms has a queen bed; one has a desk and the other has an en suite bathroom with large stall shower. The second bathroom is off the hall and features an excellent bathtub with splash screen, as well as a washing machine. The only thing missing in this apartment is an Internet connection, but you can get your email at half a dozen cafes just downstairs, so that when you are home you can concentrate on relaxing and enjoying life, in authentic Roman fashion.
