When foreigners think of the Italian seaside they tend to envision the Amalfi Coast or the Isle of Capri
or the Riviera south of Genoa. What they don't know is that year after year, the coastline that gets the best
marks for cleanliness, scenic beauty and organized recreation is the one in Tuscany. A wonderful combination
of broad sandy beaches, tiny rocky coves, dense pinewoods and silent wetlands, it offers everything from the
most deserted wilderness to the liveliest entertainment.
If you are entering or departing Italy via Pisa Airport, why not consider spending a few days in this delightful retreat, located only 50 km away via a fast 4-lane road. Occupying a 150-year-old estate with a stone villa and a newer residence called the Dependance, it is a small place that prides itself on providing 21st-century amenities as well as an authentic Italian seaside experience. Nestled amongst the cool pine trees just a few minutes' from the sea, it offers a great base for exploring western Tuscany, or having a few days at the beach, or taking the boat to Elba Island, or just relaxing by the pool. Your lodgings will be in a newly renovated apartment with its own outdoor patio, terrace or garden, and plenty of modern amenities. Each apartment is decorated with handmade local furniture, pastel upholstery and draperies, parquet or tile floors, colorful paintings, pretty chandeliers and double-glazed windows. unit has a well-equipped kitchenette, satellite TV, direct-dial telephone, wireless or DSL Internet access, spacious wardrobe, safe, and private bathroom with stall shower, terrycloth towels and hair dryer. Upstairs apartments are reached via elevator. In the Villa all units have air conditioning and heating. In the Dependance, superior units have air conditioning and heating, while standard units have metered heating. In the Villa, Suites are for up to 3 adults and 1 child under 12 years old; they have a living room with double futon, kitchenette, queen bedroom and bathroom. Family Suites, for up to 3 adults and 2 children under 12, have a larger living room with single futon and kitchenette, two queen bedrooms, and a bathroom. Superior Family Suites are for up to 4 adults and 2 children under 12 and offer a living room with double sleep sofa and kitchenette (with dishwasher), two queen bedrooms, and two bathrooms (one with stall shower and one with whirlpool tub). In the Dependance (about 600 yards from the villa), Studios are for up to 3 adults and 1 child under 12 years old; they have a living room with double futon and queen bed, kitchenette, and bathroom. One-Bedroom Apartments, for up to 3 adults and 2 children under 12, have a living room with double futon and kitchenette, one queen bedroom, and a bathroom. Two-Bedroom Apartments are for up to 4 adults and 2 children under 12 and offer a living room with double sleep sofa and kitchenette, two queen bedrooms, and a bathroom. Superior One-Bedroom and Superior Two-Bedroom Apartments are larger than standard apartments.
There is plenty going on outside your apartment too, including a bar in each lobby,
and a fitness room in the panoramic tower of the villa, equipped with a cycling machine, treadmill, step machine
and body building machine. A coin-op laundry room is appreciated by everyone, and you'll enjoy lounging by
the swimming pools
(open May 1-October 17), or relaxing in the Jacuzzis. Reserve the property's bikes
for a whirl through the pine woods, maybe down the coast to Bolgheri, one of the prettiest little towns in
Italy. Just a short walk from the property is the beautiful sandy beach, and the Dependance boasts a wonderful
Tuscan restaurant we highly recommend. Take a drive to gorgeous Volterra and stop in at one of the world-class
wineries on the way. By the time you leave, you are bound to have made some new friends and acquired many
lifelong memories of this beautiful coastline that mass tourism, mercifully, has yet to discover.
