There are two things you should look for in a vacation apartment: location and comfort. This 1000-square-foot second-floor home has both, along with great amenities, stylish furnishings and a classic Venetian atmosphere. Oh, and did we mention the terrace?

Let's start with location, which is behind the clock tower, about 100 yards from St. Mark's Square. Despite the proximity to all you (and thousands of other visitors) want to see in Venice, this narrow street is hidden just enough so that very few outsiders wander here. This means not much noise will sift through the exotic Gothic windows that line one entire wall of the living room. True, you might hear the occasional gondolier singing on one of the two canals that are just below the living room and master bedroom, but how bad could that be? After all, it is Venice, and a small price to pay for your own private view of its most charming feature, the canals (where you have your own private dock, if needed). The living room is large enough to offer three separate spaces: an ample sitting area with two couches and several chairs, a dining area for six, and a brand-new kitchenette equipped with a full fridge/freezer, dishwasher, microwave, gas burners and, of course, plenty of dishes and cookware. Off the far end of the living room, two steps lead up to the terrace, furnished with a table and six chairs, and covered by an awning in the summer months. From here, you will have a perfect view of the clock tower.

Around the corner from the kitchenette is a hallway with two brand-new bathrooms. Each is lined in stylish tumbled marble and offers a stall shower; one also has a washing machine. Just beyond that is the first bedroom, which has two single beds and leads to the master bedroom. Here a frescoed ceiling looks down upon a king-size bed framed by a gilded headboard that was used in the movie "The Last Emperor." Throw open the windows and gaze down at that canal, and you'll soon be feeling like The Venetian Emperor!

Prices include: all taxes and services, electricity, gas, air conditioning or heating, one set of linens per person.
Not included in the price: 75 Euro for final cleaning; 55 Euro if you arrive between 7:30pm and 11:30 pm; 70 Euro if you arrive after 11:30pm; 40 Euro if you arrive more than 30 minutes after the arrival time you have agreed upon; these late fees are paid in cash upon arrival.

A baby bed can be added to the second bedroom for 70 Euros per stay. It must be requested in advance and is paid in cash in Italy.
