This picturesque flat is only a five-minute walk from the train station, but it feels a world away, hidden as it is in the heart of a thoroughly Venetian neighborhood. The magic of this city is that hundreds of people may be only 150 yards away, but if you turn the right corner, you feel as if you OWN Venice -- and such is the location of this apartment. The Grand Canal is nearby, and you can walk to almost everything in town before you retreat to your private hideaway in the evening. Happily, the tiny square it faces is far enough from any canals so that it never floods. In warmer months, the locals sometimes stage festivities in this square, which is near plenty of food markets and restaurants.

The ground-floor location of this air-conditioned 900-square-foot apartment is the first thing you are likely to appreciate: in a city with almost no elevators, it's nice not to have to climb any stairs! And once inside the front door, you will immediately be enveloped in the warm, welcoming atmosphere created by the ancient wood-beamed ceiling, the hardwood floors and cherry-wood cabinetry. Two comfy window seats tempt you to relax and watch your neighbors going on their daily rounds. The furnishings are completed by a dining table for four, plus a love seat and two armchairs. A door and a pass-through lead to the brand-new kitchen, featuring plenty of storage, ultra-sleek stainless steel backsplash and countertops, fridge/freezer, oven, dishwasher and washing machine.

The sleeping quarters are equally charming, also boasting wood-beamed ceilings, hardwood floors, country-style furniture and big picture windows. One room has a queen-size bed while the other has two single beds that can also be combined to make a king. Each room has its own en suite bathroom with modern stall shower, making this a perfect base for two couples or a family with two young (or older) kids. Everything about this Venetian abode makes you want to stay as long as possible and soak up the unique atmosphere that can be found in this city alone.

Not included in the price: 75 Euro for final cleaning; 50 Euro if you arrive between 7:30pm and 11:30 pm; 60 Euro if you arrive after 11:30pm; 40 Euro if you arrive more than 30 minutes after the arrival time you have agreed upon; these late fees are paid in cash upon arrival.

A baby bed can be added to the second bedroom for 70 Euros per stay. It must be requested in advance and is paid in cash in Italy.
