Everyone wants to see the magnificent Italian Riviera with their own eyes, but once you start researching, you realize it's easier said than done! This independent package offers you the chance to tour on your own, without having to struggle with the coordination of boats and buses and trains. Better yet, you really get your money's worth because Day Four truly is a day of touring, not just "Departure," as with most tour packages. We will provide all the train tickets you need, and upon your arrival in the delightful Riviera resort town of Rapallo, our local associates will help you with all the logistics for visiting the Riviera villages at your own pace. Best of all, because it is virtually impossible to get to Portofino with public transportation, you will have a chauffeur-driven vehicle to take you to that non-plus-ultra of jet-set resorts, where you can stroll along the exquisite harbor, or take a ferry to a fairy-tale sanctuary, or just sit at a chic café and people watch before continuing with your English-speaking driver to the colorful fishing village of Camogli. Read on to discover the unforgettable experiences you will enjoy if you book this carefree four-day private tour.

Day One
Day One

• Arrive in Rapallo and check into your room with private bathroom at your choice of 3*** Hotel Stella or 4**** Hotel Tigullio Royal.
• The afternoon is free to take advantage of Rapallo's fantastic shopping: you'll find anything you've been desiring, either at the chicest resort boutiques or a selection of unique clothing and crafts shops or at the two large department stores. If you'd rather see the sites, we suggest you stroll along the picturesque seaside to Santa Margherita, a beautiful town that is famous for the delicate faux-painted façades of its many homes. You can get there in half an hour and then take the public bus back to Rapallo. Or for the most relaxing outing, take the funicular railcar up to the top of Mount Allegro, where you can visit the lovely little Sanctuary of Our Lady and get the best Riviera views you'll ever find.
• Dinner on your own and overnight.

Day Two
Day Two

• Breakfast at the hotel.
• This morning you take the 50-minute scenic train ride to Riomaggiore, where your Cinque Terre adventure will begin. (Apart from Vernazza, these towns are accessible by train exactly as before the terrible floods of 2011. Please ask us for an update pertinent to the dates you would like to travel). Experience the totally unique nature of Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso at your own pace, exploring the narrow winding alleys, climbing the steep staircases made of hand-hewn stone, hiking through the hopelessly picturesque Sciacchetrà vineyards, or simply sipping a cappuccino at an outdoor café, watching the panorama before you hop back on the little train headed for the next of the Cinque Terre towns. If you are up for a moderate hike, take the Via dell'Amore (Lover's Lane) which hugs the side of the cliffs from Riomaggiore to Manarola. This paved path takes about half an hour and is even wheelchair-accessible!
• In the afternoon, arrive in Monterosso and enjoy a tasting of the delicious wine that comes from those hardy vineyards you've just seen.
• Take the train back to Rapallo, dinner on your own and overnight.

Day Three
Day Three

• Breakfast at the hotel.
• This morning you hop on the train to La Spezia and then after a very quick local bus ride that costs 1.20 Euro, you'll come to picturesque Portovenere, our favorite Riviera town. Perched on a stunning peninsula, it culminates in the fairy-tale San Pietro church, which poses on the promontory looking for all the world like it could have been the birthplace of King Arthur.
• Next, board your private excursion boat and take one of the most beautiful cruises of your life, with views of the coastline, the Ligurian hills, the tiny islands of  Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto, and far off in the distance, the Apuan Alps, whose flanks are made of pure Carrara marble so white it looks like snow. The Bay of La Spezia is truly one of Europe's most spectacular, so be sure your camera battery is well charged for this exciting day!
• Afterwards, take the bus and train back to Rapallo.
• Dinner on your own and overnight.

Day Four
Day Four

• Breakfast at the hotel.
• Your driver will meet you at the hotel and take you along the coast, going north this time to the world-famous Jewel of the Riviera, Portofino. The town is so tiny it takes no time to explore its picture-perfect streets and mega-zillion-dollar yacht harbor. After that, we suggest you take the panoramic ferry ride to San Fruttuoso, an adorable little cove where you can visit the 1100-year-old abbey.
• A quick ferry ride takes you back to Portofino, where you'll meet your driver and continue on to Camogli, a classic Italian harbor with colorful houses built right to the edge of the fine sandy beach. It seems impossible that villages so close to each other could all be so unique, but if you consider the topography, you can see why the locals were not really interested in traveling from town to town except in cases of dire necessity, so each one was a world unto its own.
• Your driver will take you back to Rapallo, where you can board a train or pick up a rental car for your next Italian destination!
