Your day starts when your driver meets you at the dock in Civitavecchia.
It takes about 90 minutes to drive to downtown Rome, giving you the chance to see the beautiful coast of Latium, the famed campagna romana (Roman countryside), with its flocks of sheep and gently rolling hills. You'll enter the city through EUR, the all-marble suburb that was Mussolini's attempt to create his own Imperial City. Your first stop is the Coliseum, where you'll meet the guide and tour the world's most fascinating amphitheatre. Afterwards you can visit the Roman Forum and the Palatine, or stroll over to the Baroque area and see Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona or the Spanish Steps. At about noon, you'll meet your driver again and proceed to the Vatican, where you'll have time for a brief lunch break. At one o'clock, the least crowded time of day, you'll have a private guided tour of the Vatican Museums and St. Peter's Basilica. After such an exciting and interesting day, you'll enjoy the relaxing ride back to the pier.
This tour starts at 8 am and lasts approximately nine hours. Entrance tickets to the Vatican Museums (18 Euro/person extra) and the Coliseum (11 Euro/person extra) are paid in cash during the tour (ticket prices may vary slightly without notice). If your group includes at least two adults plus children, up to two of the children under 12 years old pay nothing for the tour except for tickets (the reduced ticket price for children is 8 Euros/person). Children under 6 years old pay nothing. If you have more than two children, all the others pay the adult price for the tour no matter their age. If your group numbers more than 7, you will hear the guide better if you purchase audio headsets at the start of the tour for 4 Euro/person. The tour is available in English or Spanish.

OSTIA ANTICA & THE ETRUSCAN TOMBS FROM CIVITAVECCHIA
If you have already been to Rome, and/or you would like to visit Pompeii but don't have time, consider visiting the beautifully preserved ruins of Ostia Antica, Rome's ancient seaport. It was founded, probably in the 4th century BC, as a military colony to guard the river mouth against seaborne invasions. Later, during the centuries when virtually all imports reached the Capital via the Tiber, Ostia gained prominence as the domestic landing for cargo boats. By the 2nd century AD, it had become a flourishing commercial center inhabited by upwards of 100,000 people, whose apartment buildings, taverns, and grocery shops are still intact.
Ostia Antica
Although Ostia now sprawls over 10,000 acres, around a main street that runs for more than a mile, it is still easy to imagine the local shepherds who for centuries sheltered their animals amongst its ruins, for they are an integral part of the tranquil Roman countryside. No modern houses, roads or telephone wires are visible on the horizon. The streets are so quiet one hears only the crickets in the trees and perhaps the echoes of ancient children playing stickball. As you walk along Ostia's main street, the Decumanus Maximus, your feet settle into deep ruts left by carrucas, the four-wheeled carts used to ferry merchandise and baggage between Rome and Ostia.
Cerveteri
After a two-hour private guided tour of the ruins, you will get back in the car and drive up the coast to the delightful little town of Cerveteri, where you will break for lunch, and then move on to the Etruscan necropolis. Little is known of the Etruscans, a people who sprang to importance in the 8th century BC. At the height of their power, their influence spread from the Po Valley to Campania, even encompassing ancient Rome, which finally defeated them in the 3rd century BC. The Etruscans' demise may be partly attributed to their ephemeral attitude towards life on this earth, which led them to build their homes of wood and clay. On the other hand, their tombs were built to last forever, which is why their necropolis is a cemetery like none you've ever seen. Situated in the tranquil countryside, it is a real town whose streets and squares are lined with massive tumuli and rectangular tombs cut into the rock. To protect these precious relics, the locals open them a few at a time in rotation, so we can’t say which you’ll see, but it might include the Tomb of the Capitals, which will show you what an Etruscan home looked like, or the Tomb of the Reliefs, decorated with painted stucco reliefs of weapons and household items. A trip through Etruria is one of the most interesting archeological excursions you can take in Italy.
Cerveteri
This tour is available on request any day except Monday. It starts at 9 am and lasts approximately seven hours.
Entrance tickets in Ostia and Cerveteri cost a total of 12 Euro/person extra, paid in cash during the tour (ticket prices may vary slightly without notice). If your group includes at least two adults plus children, up to two of the children under 12 years old pay nothing for the tour except for tickets. Children under 6 years old pay nothing. If you have more than two children, all the others pay the adult price for the tour no matter their age. INTRODUCTION TO PISA AND FLORENCE FROM LIVORNO
Your driver will pick you up and take you for the 30-minute drive to Pisa, where you will have time to visit one of Italy's most renowned monuments, as well as the beautiful cathedral and baptistry. If you would like to climb the Leaning Tower, tickets can be purchased in advance. Afterwards, you will drive along the Arno River to see the Medici palaces (from outside) and a jewellike church which hosts a thorn from Christ's crown, brought back by Crusaders from the Palestine.
This tour starts at 8:30 am and lasts until approximately 5:00 pm. Meals and entrance tickets are not included. Entrance tickets (20 Euro/person for the Leaning Tower or for the Academia) will be purchased for you in advance if you desire. You may also add a private guide for three hours in Florence: this costs 200 Euro extra/group for up to 8 people.
Next you'll continue on to Florence across the northern swath of Tuscany, past the rolling hills of Leonardo Da Vinci's homelands, which were to appear again and again as backdrops in his paintings. In Firenze you are free to see the town as you like. Set off on a pleasant stroll down cobblestone lanes, through majestic squares and across ancient bridges, pausing along the way to visit Palazzo Vecchio, Piazza della Signoria, the cathedral and Giotto's belltower, Santa Croce, and Orsanmichele. You might like to do a little leather, gold or clothing shopping near Ponte Vecchio, and surely you will want to relax for a typical Tuscan lunch in a restaurant recommended by your driver. Afterwards, your private car will take you back to the ship.

The legendary Amalfi coast is one of the most beautiful places in the world. No one who has ever seen it forgets its crystal blue waters, steep dark green hillsides, jewel-like hill towns and silent lemon groves. Of course few people ever forget its narrow winding roads, either! That's why the best way to enjoy the Amalfi Coast is in a private car with a delightful local guide. Sit back, open the windows and breathe the heady Mediterranean air. Revel in the sights and smells of this fairytale kingdom.
In the picture-perfect town of Amalfi, you'll visit the magnificent 9th-century cathedral, with a pause in its serene "cloister of paradise." Your stroll through the charming streets will lead you to the ideal spot for a taste of limoncello, the local specialty, a sweet lemon liqueur. You might spot some of the celebrities who come from all over the world to experience this unique retreat, and you'll marvel at the colors of the hillsides, with their citrus groves, olive trees and tiny vineyards all reflected in the sparkling sea hundreds of feet below.
Everywhere in the world, Positano is synonymous with romance and glamour. Its gleaming white houses seem to cascade down the steep hillside, crisscrossed with myriad sets of steep, narrow stairs. Boutiques abound, selling the unique clothing and souvenirs that make this special town a shopper's paradise. Lunch is at a charming trattoria where the delicious food is as memorable as the panoramic view. The staff are good friends and they're always thrilled to meet our guests.
Next you'll hop into your private car and drive up to elegant Ravello, another world-famed hill town. You'll admire the view all up and down the coast, then visit Villa Cimbrone, the magnificent park that tops this most magical of hills.

FULL-DAY EXCURSION TO THE ISLE OF CAPRI
![]()
A day trip to Capri can be risky on your own, simply because you have to know your way around to maximize the sites you can see. If you put yourselves into the hands of a guide, it will be pleasant and unforgettable. Your guide will meet you at the ship and take you by hydrofoil to Capri. The trip lasts about 40 minutes and leaves you at the dock in Capri's Marina Grande. From there, you'll visit the world-famous Blue Grotto, truly one of the great natural wonders of our planet.
Afterwards you'll take a private mini-bus back to the charming town of Capri. The most famous square, called La Piazzetta, is surrounded almost completely by whitewashed buildings that make it as cozy as an outdoor living room. You'll explore some of the narrow winding streets radiating away from it, filled with flowering terraces and elegant little shops.
Next you'll go to lunch in a typical trattoria, where you'll sample some of the local specialties such as insalata caprese (slices of tomato served with mozzarella and basil leaves), washed down with the local bianco caprese white wine. As you eat, the panoramic view of the Bay of Naples will etch itself into your soul.
Your next walk will be to the opposite side of the island. You're sure to be deeply inspired by the calm sea breezes, the warm sun, and the silence, broken only by bird calls and the whish of pine needles stirring in the wind. Thoroughly invigorated, you'll set off on foot to witness the view that has made Capri a legend: the Faraglioni. These two large free-standing cliffs jut straight up out of the water near the narrow paved footpath you'll take around the secluded western edge of the island. Continuing past beautiful homes, you'll return to the Piazzetta, and then via hydrofoil back to the mainland and your ship.

FULL-DAY GUIDED TOUR OF POMPEII AND MOUNT VESUVIUS
This is the complete visit to Pompeii. First you'll be picked up at the dock and taken to the world's most fascinating ruins. Here you'll recreate a day in the life of your ancient counterparts: vacationers bent on enjoying the amenities of what was then a world-class resort town. You'll peek in on their homes, their baths, their clubs, and all the facilities used by the large local population of workers to ensure that everything worked smoothly in Pompeii.
But why did it all come so suddenly to an end? As any schoolchild knows, this whole area was buried under twenty feet of ash one dark day in 79 A.D. The fatal blanket spewed forth from Mount Vesuvius, which still looms overhead. As a result of that same ash, the slopes of the volcano are now a lush Garden of Eden. Heavenly-scented citrus groves and vast Lacrima Christi vineyards surround gracious homes on the way up to the summit, which is still one of the world's most active craters (though not considered dangerous). It also offers the very best view of the Bay of Naples, one of the panoramic wonders of the world. Along the way to the top, you'll stop for lunch at a fantastic local restaurant. Your guide will help you order local specialties, if you like. After your climb to the summit, you'll be driven back to your ship.

If you consider yourself an Italophile - a blueblooded lover of Italy - then you must treat yourself to a walk through this most Italian of all cities. Naples presents an unforgettable blend of extravagant art, monumental history and zany humanity that inevitably brings a smile to your face when musing upon it afterwards.
San Gregorio Armeno
Admittedly, this city can be overwhelming or even intimidating to the uninitiated. That is why it's a good idea to introduce yourself to her with a private guide. You will be picked up by car at your hotel in Naples or at the dock or rail station and driven to the meeting point in the heart of the historic center. From here your guide will lead you through the fascinating alleys, courtyards and piazzas, stopping along the way at the following spots:
- Church of Gesł Nuovo, built in the 17th century and considered the historic "heart" of the cityChurch of Santa Chiara, with its world-renowned colorful tile cloisters
- San Domenico, traditionally the church of the Neapolitan nobility, filled with wonderful artwork from the 17th and 18th centuries
Santa Chiara- Ready for a break? If you'd like you can stop at the best pastry shop in town so you can sample the local specialty, the sfogliatello, perhaps accompanied by the world's finest espresso
- Chapel of San Severo, a giddily glorious example of rococo extravagance
- Spaccanapoli, a delightful warren of narrow streets overhung with laundry, lined with shops whose friendly owners sell elaborate snacks, ancient nativity scenes, mysterious lottery tickets and all manner of contraband - think, "Sophia Loren!"
- San Gregorio Armeno, the oldest and probably most photographed part of the city
- Naples Cathedral, with the chapel where San Gennaro's blood mysteriously liquifies every year in a most sacred ceremony that involves every Neapolitan
Outside the cathedral you will meet your driver again and he will take you back to your ship.
