This self-guided private tour is tailor-made for those who want to experience the beauties of Tuscany without encountering tourist crowds. Few travelers make it to the exquisite Etruscan coast, where dark-green hillsides tumble right down to the golden sandy beaches and dramatic rocky coves. Even fewer stop to explore the medieval villages, with their cobbled lanes, their quiet chapels, their turreted fortresses, Renaissance churches and aristocratic palaces. Thanks to the pristine tranquility of this area, one can truly understand what it was like to be a Tuscan 1000 years ago.
Day One
- Check into your room at one of Tuscany's most popular seaside resort villages. Set in a beautiful pine and oak forest, the property is so vast that one hardly encounters any other guests except at the beach. But since the private beach is no less than 1km long, even there you'll have plenty of room!
- Dinner on your own and overnight at the resort.
|
 |
Day Two
- Buffet breakfast at the resort.
- In the morning, take a quick drive to the Gulf of Baratti, the only Etruscan necropolis on the coast. Here you'll have a guided tour of the 7th- and 6th-century BC tombs, both tumuli and edicola types. An archeologist will introduce you to the ancient techniques of processing ceramic and stone, and you'll see a simulated display of the excavations. You may also take an easy hike along marked trails or into more remote parts of the park.
- Lunch and dinner on your own.
- Overnight at the resort.
|
 |
Day Three
- Buffet breakfast at the resort.
- Your drive today takes you to an entirely different world, only a few miles away. The impossibly picturesque village of Bolgheri has boasted excellent vineyards since the 15th century, but lately it has become famous as the home of Sassicaia, one of the most prestigious cabernets in the world. You'll have plenty of time to explore the narrow lanes of the town.
- In the afternoon you're invited to a Bolgheri DOC cellar to enjoy a wine tasting accompanied by local hams and salamis.
- Dinner on your own and overnight at the resort.

 |
Day Four

- Check-out and departure.
