Since ancient times, the city of Castrovillari has occupied a verdant valley at the feet
of snow-capped Mount Pollino on the very northern border of Calabria. Hidden amongst its many winding lanes
are an Aragonese castle, the 11th-century sanctuary of Santa Maria del Castello, the church of the Holy Trinity
and a beautiful Renaissance convent dedicated to St. Francis of Assisi. Located right off the A3 autostrada just halfway
between Naples and Sicily, it makes a perfect stopping off place if you're driving through the southern half
of Italy.
