Pergolesi and Spontini Festival in Le Marche

VIII EDITION PERGOLESI SPONTINI FESTIVAL
5-14 SEPTEMBER 2008

Jesi - Maiolati Spontini - Monsano - Montecarotto - Monte San Vito - San Marcello

FIRST OPERAS: THE ROOTS OF GENIUS

Pergolesi’s first serious opera and Spontini’s first comic opera are the opening and closing works on the program of the Festival, dedicated, in its eighth year, to the moment in which genius blossoms and creative fantasy takes its first steps. The first operas of the great composers alternate with the music of the teachers of Neapolitan conservatories, meaning those who first recognised the genius of Pergolesi and Spontini and cultivated their gifts, and the music of modern-day composers who look back at Pergolesi with the ffectionate gesture of a parody.
Of course, no tribute to art’s “Spring reawakening” would be complete without a Night of the Prodigies, an event devoted to young musicians who have displayed precocious talent: concerts are held in the theatres, churches, courtyards and parks of Jesi.
