Places To Stay In Friuli-Venezia Giulia
|
 |
- People who love wonderful scenery and refined inns should definitely plan to visit Friuli-Venezia Giulia,
which has a surprising surplus of both. Perhaps the nicest place to stay in the whole region is Villa Luppis,
a former monastery which is now an upscale and very atmospheric country estate. While being within close range
of all the region's many sites, it is also a perfect alternative to staying in Venice. It has a daily shuttle
to the city, as well as a swimming pool, gourmet restaurant, and cooking and wine appreciation lessons. From
110. EURO/night. Click here for more information.

- Sauris (a mountain village about 20 miles from the Austrian border)
- Pa'Krhaizar (Frazione Lateis 5, 33020 Sauris; tel. and fax, 011-39-0433-86165). A fairy-tale stone house that has been lovingly restored to combine modern amenities with all the traditional charm of the area. There are only seven simple rooms, and the tiny restaurant is excellent.
- Borgo di San Lorenzo (Frazione Sauris e Sopra n.3/F, 33020 Sauris; tel. and fax, 011-39-0433-86221). This is a great choice for skiers and hikers, because it offers self-sufficient apartments sleeping 2-8. All are modern and comfortable, but with the rustic log cabin look of a mountain retreat.
