Inside an astounding 15th-century palace across the river from the Uffizi, the must-see Palatine Gallery exhibit includes works by no less than 650 16th- and 17th-century artists, including Raphael, Rubens, Murillo, Andrea del Sarto, Fra Filippo Lippi, Titian, Veronese and Tintoretto. The gallery still resembles the sumptuous royal palace in which it is housed, and its elaborate rooms are filled with tapestries, frescoes and gilded stuccos.

The remarkable Modern Art collection is housed in 30 rooms and offers a complete overview of Italian painting, from the Neoclassical period to the 20th century, organized in chronological order and by subject. Included is a wonderful collection of works by the Macchiaioli, Italian precursors to the Impressionists.

Tickets also include entrance to the Palazzo Pitti Gallery of Modern Art and Costumes, as well as the mandatory extra admission charge for special exhibitions such as Caravaggio and Caravagesque Painters in Florence, May 22-October 10, 2010 or L'arte di Dio, November 21, 2009-April 19, 2010 (you do not have to purchase anything else). They cost 24.00 Euro each, with the following exceptions :

1. Children under 6 years old pay nothing and do not require a reservation.
2. European (EEC) citizens under 18 or over 65 pay nothing for the ticket but do require a reservation. If you qualify for this exception we sincerely regret that we are not permitted to request a reservation for you unless you are with a party of paying customers. We do not have the authority to change this rule, so we are grateful for your understanding. Each EEC reservation costs 9 Euro. If you cancel it later we regret that there is no refund.
