of Ladin country. Large rooms with great bathrooms. Private ski school included
in the room rate; very near the slopes. Open December 10-November 10, except
two weeks at Easter.

fax 011-39-474-948091). Charming family-run country inn located in a beautiful
quiet valley. Covered pool, sauna, gym. Open May 25-November 1 and December

fax 011-39-474-31283). This unpretentious country inn has a renowned restaurant
and clean, modern rooms. Solarium, sauna. Open January-March and June-October.
- Hotel Gianna (Via Vallesinella 16, 38084 Madonna di Campiglio; tel.

hotel is a great bargain for such a chic resort town. A bus stops in front
every half hour to take guests to town and the ski lifts. Open December 1-Easter

- Hotel Accademia (Vicolo Colico 4/6, 38100 Trento; tel. 011-39-0461-233600, fax 011-39-0461-230174). Around the corner from the cathedral, Trento's best-known hotel occupies a perfectly restored medieval building with a delightful inner garden. Open year-round. The suites are fantastic.

- Hotel Engel (Via S. Valentino 3, 39056 Nova Levante; tel. 011-39-0471-613131, fax 011-39-0471-613404). This medium-sized alpine-style hotel is great for families and sports enthusiasts. Hiking, skiing and golf are nearby; the hotel has a covered pool, sauna and tennis courts. Open December to mid-April and mid-June to October.
- Castel Pergine (38057 Pergine; tel. 011-39-0461-531158). Surrounded by forests, this medieval castle overlooks Lake Caldonazzo. Clean, simple rooms; the tower holds a large restaurant. Open April-October.
- Hotel Rovereto (Corso Rosmini 82, 38068 Rovereto; tel. 011-39-0464-435222, fax 011-39-0464-439644). Located a couple of miles outside town, this 100-year-old hotel is full of original art and fine antiques. The breakfast buffet is excellent. Open year-round.
- Schloss Korb (39050 San Paolo Appiano; tel. 011-39-0471-636-000, fax 636-033), a fairy tale 11th-century castle surrounded by vineyards, is a great place to stay while exploring the Via del Vino. It has 54 spacious rooms, a sauna, heated outdoor pool, covered pool, tennis courts and a fine restaurant. Open March-November.
