In the 15th century, this cluster of stone houses was an entire village that served as the resting place for pilgrims on the last leg of their arduous trek to Rome. Set in the heart of the Chianti Classico region, it is now an esteemed wine estate floating in an endless sea of vineyards and providing accommodations in one separate house and 17 apartments (some of which can be combined). Each of these units has big picture windows, soft pastels walls, delightful country fabrics and heavy rustic antiques, and is strictly non-smoking. Every unit has its own patio or garden space, plus satellite TV, direct-dial telephone with DSL line, window screens, safe, and hair dryer. Many have wood-beamed cathedral ceilings, fireplace or air conditioning; most have a kitchen or kitchenette with stove-top burners, sink, and plenty of dishes and cookware (some also have an oven, a dishwasher and/or microwave oven). The air-conditioned house occupies an old barn with a covered loggia for outdoor dining, plus a large living room with picture windows and fireplace, an eat-in kitchen with dishwasher, a queen bedroom with en suite bathroom with bathtub and separate shower, a twin bedroom, a hall bathroom with stall shower, and a very panoramic queen bedroom upstairs. There are also three very large apartments in this same price category: one has two queen bedrooms, one single bedroom and two bathrooms; one has one queen bedroom, one bedroom with three single beds or one queen bed and one single bed, and two bathrooms; the last has two queen bedrooms, one bedroom with bunk beds and two bathrooms.

The apartments offer a vast range of possibilities. The smallest, for just one person, is decorated with roses and features a single bed, a large wardrobe, and a bathroom with stall shower. There are two Double Rooms for Single Use: the first has a queen bed and bathroom with bathtub; the other has a queen bed, tiny kitchenette, and bathroom with stall shower. The eight Classic Doubles offer a bedroom with one queen or two single beds, a kitchenette, and a bathroom with bathtub or stall shower; some also have a separate living room.

Each of the five Classic Suites has a living room with sleep sofa for one person, a bedroom with queen bed or twin beds, and a bathroom with bathtub or shower; one of these has a wheelchair-accessible bathroom, separate entrance and private garden. Last are the Superior Suites, each of which offers a living room, two bedrooms with queen or twin beds, and two bathrooms with bathtub or stall shower. No matter what type of unit you choose, you are invited to start your day with a hearty complimentary breakfast served in the restaurant. Then it’s off you go, ready to enjoy a full immersion into the wonderful world of the Chianti!
