Don't be fooled by this classic hotel's strange name, which derives from its use as Allied headquarters in World War One. Truthfully, this is a classic Italian grand hotel, offering 5-star deluxe services and amenities at 4-star prices. The location is excellent, on a quiet residential street halfway between the rail station and the Arno River, with almost no vehiclular traffic at all. And after a top-to-toes renovation in 2003, it is now ready to welcome discerning guests with style. In Italy Online's guests are treated to a fruit basket or bottle of vin santo waiting in the room on your arrival, and an English-language newspaper will be delivered to your doorstep each morning.

Location: On Via Garibaldi, two blocks from the river and a 5-minute walk from the station. Ponte Vecchio is about a 20-minute walk or a 5-Euro cab ride from the hotel. All are furnished with comfortable antiques, beautiful fabrics, crown molding, and rich parquet. Most beds are king-sized, and every room features a table and armchairs or settee, as well as a desk with modem plug, and great lighting for reading. There are connecting rooms for families, a third bed can be added to any deluxe room, and one entire floor is non-smoking rooms.   Features: Air conditioning, double-glazed windows, color satellite TV, pay TV, direct-dial telephone with modem plug, excellent mini-bar, electronic safe. Bathrooms are lined with marble and have a stall shower or bathtub and shower with glass screen, hair dryer, telephone, magnifying mirror and robes (on request). Deluxe rooms and suites also have a gentleman's valet, two luggage racks, walk-in closet, slippers, shoeshine kit and shoe horn, bathroom scale, loofahs and a wide range of courtesy products including a ladies kit with clothing soap, sanitary kit, towelettes, toothbrush and toothpaste, and a gentleman's kit with razor, shaving cream, toothbrush and toothpaste, as well as a fruit basket.   Facilities: Elevator; 5-star gourmet restaurant; coffee bar; courtyard with fountain and warm weather bar; full American breakfast including eggs and bacon; room service; free Internet point in the lobby; garage parking nearby (26 Euro/night).
