Hotel Ca' d'Oro

  

History abounds at this small non-smoking inn, where even the wooden beams above the reception desk date back to the 13th century! The entrance is through a quiet private courtyard surmounted by the coat of arms of the Roman family who first lived here in the 800s. There is also a small side canal that runs right beneath the building, and many of the rooms overlook its twin wrought-iron bridges and arched porticoes. The hotel was completely restored in 2000 and 2005, but it still offers its guests the intimate and very unique atmosphere of Venice's golden past.

Location: Very easy to find (and no bridges to cross!) on Rio di Ca' Dolce, in the trendy Cannaregio neighborhood, about 12 minutes by vaporetto from the rail station or Piazzale Roma. This is right in the heart of Venice, less than 15 minutes' walk from St. Mark's and five minutes from Rialto Bridge, but off the main tourist thoroughfare that is so crowded and noisy. Transportation: The Ca' d'Oro vaporetto stop is about two minutes' walk away. There are no bridges to lug your bags up and down on the way to the hotel.
 
Rooms: 27 on four floors, each with private bathroom. Rooms on the fourth floor have beamed ceilings. There are two junior suites with canal view, king bed and day bed, beamed ceilings and whirlpool bathtub. The superior double rooms are bigger and most of them also have canal view, and the Family Room has an extra single bed for a second child. There are two connecting double rooms on the first floor, and there is a beautiful double room in the annex which has a wheelchair-accessible shower as well as a bathtub with wall shower.
 
Features: Each room has antique furniture, elegant Venetian upholsteries and draperies, Murano chandeliers, parquet or wall-to-wall carpet, good reading lights, desk and chair, as well as satellite TV, direct-dial telephone, wireless Internet access, wall safe and air conditioning. The bathrooms are lined with marble and feature a bathtub or glass stall shower, hair dryer, towel warmer, and toiletry set. There is no smoking allowed in the hotel.
 
Facilities: Elevator, breakfast room, Internet point, panoramic roof terrace and gazebo with tables and chairs, 24-hour front desk, canal dock for taxis.
