Only 7 km north of Como lie the jewel-like towns of Cernobbio and Moltrasio. This latter lakeside enclave (pronounced Mol-traz-yo) is famed for its spectacular waterfall, fed by the snows that melt in the Alps overhead. At the lake level, it's a sub-tropical paradise with huge flowering shrubs, trees and bushes almost year-round. The composer Giacomo Bellini loved its unforgettable views so much that he was inspired to write La Sonnambula and Lo Straniero.
