Antico Palazzo di Roma
|
|
This very historical hotel opened to the public in mid 2001. It occupies a 17th-century palace called Palazzo Imperiali Borromeo. Since it is now in the heart of the city, you will find it hard to believe that this was the "summer residence" of the family who owned the Quirinale, the building that eventually became the residence of the Popes and is now the Presidential Palace. Since there were Popes in the family, the building even contains a “chapel,” which is actually a full-blown 18th-century church with a beautiful sunburst altar that rivals any other in Rome. Ask to see this secret masterpiece - as a guest of the hotel you are welcome to walk through it. Elsewhere in the hotel, the renovations completed in 2001 reveal the owners' decision not to eliminate any of the original architectural features. Beautiful stuccos and marbles are everywhere to delight the artistically and historically minded visitor.
