Hotel Ponte Sisto

On a narrow side street that leads from Campo dei Fiori to the Tiber River, this Renaissance palazzo occupies prime real estate from both the logistical and historical points of view. Completely gutted and revamped in 2001, it is a sunny, airy, stylish surprise, and its central courtyard offers an oasis in the urban chaos that now defines the ancient core of 21st-century Roma.

Location: On Via dei Pettinari, one block from the river, three blocks from Campo dei Fiori, five minutes' stroll from Piazza Navona and the Pantheon, only slightly farther the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, and St. Peter's. The train station is a 10 or 15-minute cab ride away. Click here to see a map.

Public transportation: Many buses stop only a block away on the Lungotevere, or four blocks away on Corso Vittorio Emanuele. Just a 5-minute stroll away is the main downtown depot at Largo Argentina.

Rooms:

103, including single, double and triple rooms, junior suites and suites. All rooms are nicely furnished neutral colors, brand-new carpet and warm cherry wood. Every room has two single beds or one king-size bed, plus a private bathroom lined with Siena marble. Suites have two bedrooms and two bathrooms (or one bedroom and one living room). There are forty non-smoking rooms.

Features:

All rooms have silent air-conditioning, bedside controls, direct-dial telephone, soundproof windows, radio, satellite TV, electronic safe, ISDN modem (on request), mini-bar, luggage rack, top quality linens and mattresses. Some double rooms connect with another double room, single room or triple room: these combinations are called “family room.” Bathrooms have shower or bathtub, telephone, slippers, robes, nice courtesy sets, heated towel rack, and hair dryer.

Facilities: Elevator; hot and cold breakfast buffet served in the inner courtyard (weather permitting); Internet point in the lobby.
