Positano Pasitea

Is there anyone on earth who hasn't heard about the barefoot glamour and unforgettable beauty of Positano? As far back as the Roman Empire this rocky coast was the vacation mecca of the rich and famous, the Jet Set of the Ancients, who mostly just gazed at it from their estates on Capri, because as good as the Romans were at building roads, they hadn't figured out how to suspend one among the rocks of the Amalfi Coast. Luckily for you, that heroic feat was accomplished several decades ago. They ought to sell t-shirts that say, "I drove to Amalfi and survived!" but they don't, because the intrepid local residents know that as challenging as this byway may seem, it is a heck of a lot easier than what it replaced: hundreds and hundreds of steps carved into the rocks ascending all the way from the beach to the very top of the mountains. Positano is renowned for its steps - you have to climb them no matter where you are going, but if you stay at this hotel, which is perched in the middle of the village, you can also walk up and down on the gently curving road that is definitely easier on the legs! Completely redesigned and redecorated in 2000/2001, the elegant Pasitea has a unique tiered structure which graces each room with its own private terrace facing a spectacular view of the bay.

Location: In the middle of Positano, only 20 yards from shops and restaurants. Click here for a map.

Public transportation: You can take a bus here from Naples or Sorrento, and we recommend it, because driving is a bit of a challenge, as mentioned above! If you DO have a car, you can park it in a nearby garage at the hotel’s extremely discounted rate of 15 Euro/day. Buses go all day long to all points on the Amalfi Coast, or in summer you can walk down the hill to the dock, where you can get the hydrofoil to Capri and other points (see the bottom of this page for details).

Rooms: 28, including standard doubles, executive doubles, triples and quads. All rooms have double-glazed windows and a private balcony facing the sea and the world-famous Positano hillside. Triples and quads have a double bed and single or double sleep sofa. Some romantic executive rooms have whirlpool bathtubs in the room. Floors are of cool blue majolica tiles, walls are whitewashed and the furnishings are simple yet elegant, in the local style. All rooms have a private tile-lined bathroom with hair dryer and bathtub with shower. There are two connecting rooms. Non-smoking rooms are available.

Features: Air conditioning, heating, direct-dial telephone with high-speed Internet access, satellite TV, mini bar, safe, hair dryer.

Facilities: Elevator, reserved spots on the beach (in summer months) about 15 minutes’ walk from the hotel, room service, 24-hour bar, high-speed Internet access in the lobby, buffet breakfast on the terrace, parking nearby (14 Euro/day).
