To Italians, Sanremo is the epitome of the elegant Riviera resort town. Mostly built at the turn of the century, it boasts broad avenues lined with ornate mansions, palm trees and colorful flowers year-round, because it never really gets cold here. Indeed, Sanremo is known as "The Flower Capital of Italy," because its nurseries grow enormous quantities of blooms and ship them to florists throughout Europe. Glass greenhouses line the hills, soaking up the warm Mediterranean sun. A visit to the flower market can be a refreshing way to start the day before driving or training off to Monte Carlo (25 miles away), the French Riviera (35 miles to Nice), or Portofino (65 miles). After a refreshing dip in the pool, end the day by trying your luck at the Sanremo Casino, and find out why European gambling is so very different from Las Vegas or Atlantic City. Also of interest are the Olive Oil Museum and the Naval Museum in nearby Imperia, as well as the many delightful hill towns in the off-the-beaten-track hills just outside town. |

You can stay here without a car, but you’ll need to take short taxi rides up and down the hill to town. All the major sites on the Italian and French Rivieras can be reached by frequent train service.

Credit cards accepted and ATM on the premises, as well as a restaurant, bar and theatre. Free parking is provided. Jacket and tie are required for most areas of the casino.
