Podere di Pescia

This large farm is located just outside of Pescia, in an area sometimes known as " Tuscany's Switzerland." Centered around a magnificent national landmark villa, the estate produces and sells its own extra virgin olive oil, wine and vin santo, the limited edition dessert wine that is so hard to buy outside of Italy. Guests are invited to visit the wine and oil cellars.

Accommodations here include three double rooms and seven apartments ranging from very spacious to cozy. All the apartments have dishwashers*, washing machines, telephone, television and a private garden with independent entrance. The largest, Casa d'Oro (1560 sq. ft., sleeps 6), has a covered patio, spacious kitchen, twin or queen bedroom and bathroom with shower on the ground floor, plus two more double bedrooms (one twin/queen, the other queen), a bathroom with shower and sitting room with fireplace on the second floor. In the same farmhouse, Fiordaliso (1260 sq. ft., sleeps 4) is perfect for two couples. It has two entrances, a full kitchen and a living/dining room with fireplace on the ground floor, plus a queen bedroom, a queen/twin bedroom and a bathroom with shower upstairs. Completing this building is Margherita (690 sq. ft., sleeps 4), which also has a separate entry, and a kitchen plus living/dining room with fireplace downstairs, as well as a twin/queen bedroom, queen bedroom, and a bathroom with shower upstairs.

A few yards away near the pond is another farmhouse, whose ground floor is occupied by Il Laghetto (860 sq. ft., sleeps 4). It has a living/dining room with kitchenette, one twin/queen bedroom, one queen bedroom and two bathrooms with shower, as well as a vine-shaded patio. La Casina completes this building. It has its own entrance, a queen bedroom with kitchenette and bathroom with shower.

The third guesthouse is at the other end of the property and offers Il Coppo, a first-floor studio with balcony, double sleep sofa, kitchenette, fireplace and bathroom with shower. The three double rooms, each with its own private bathroom with shower, are also in this building along with a beautiful breakfast room with fireplace. Completing the grounds are a large swimming pool, elegant restaurant, soccer field and volleyball court. Public tennis courts are only 300 yards down the road.

Podere di Pescia makes a great base for exploring the less crowded towns of western Tuscany. Lucca, Pistoia and Pisa are a half-hour drive away, and the beach is just a few miles farther. Day trips to Florence are fine, since it is only 40 miles east of the farm. The many elegant spas of Montecatini are less than 10 miles away; even closer, in Pinocchio's home town of Collodi, you'll want to visit the old town, the exquisite Baroque gardens, and Toyland, where your children will meet all the famous puppet's friends.
