Chianti Storico

Many people ask us to find them a classic Tuscan house that's not in the city but still within walking distance to shops and restaurants. Ah, how reasonable that request might sound! And ah, how hard it is to fulfill! What you will find out when you drive through Tuscany is that many locals have renovated their family farmhouses for vacation stays, but almost all the houses in those picture-perfect hamlets are occupied by the locals themselves! Rarely do you find one that's been restored and made available for our use. So the normal choice in Tuscany is either (a) stay at a hotel in town or (b) stay at a villa in the country. Happily, this authentic 15th-century home in an equally pristine medieval hamlet is one fabulous exception to that rule. What's even better, you do not have to stay a full week, or Saturday-to-Saturday. And if you only want one room, that's OK too!

Located about halfway between Siena and Florence, with lovely views across the valleys of southern Chianti, this property offers the perfect Tuscan Experience, and it makes a great base for exploring the hill towns, abbeys, castles and wine country around Siena. It's also a great choice for individuals or small groups looking for a few days relaxation in the midst of their whirlwind European junket. Thanks to the peaceful setting, you'll sleep just a little later than usual, have a delicious homemade breakfast, take a short local excursion, spend the afternoon enjoying friends or strolling in the woods or reading on the patio, take a short walk to dinner and then finish the day with a nightcap by the fireplace.

There are only 5 rooms and 1 apartment at Chianti Storico. Each is unique, but all are furnished with classic Tuscan farmhouse pieces and feature terra cotta floors, wood-beamed ceilings, whitewashed walls and great picture windows, as well as a modern en suite bathroom with stall shower. Four of the double rooms are on the first floor; each of these has a furnished balcony with views across the valley. Two of these rooms can have twin beds, while the others each have a queen bed. The fifth room is on the ground floor and has an extra room with a single bed for a third person, plus a bathroom with whirlpool bathtub. Rounding out the accommodations is an apartment composed of a living room with kitchenette and single sleep sofa, a bedroom with queen bed, and a bathroom with stall shower. The property is air-conditioned and heated throughout, and each room has satellite TV, a wall safe and double-glazed windows. In the morning, as your English-speaking hosts Vittorio and Claudia serve your cappuccino, they will be happy to help you plan another exciting day in the Chianti.
